Favourite movie soundtrack

From the movie ‘Demon slayer: Mugen train’ (released Oct 16 Director Haruo Sotozaki) my favourite score used is ‘RENGOKU TO AKAZA NO TATAKAI’ (composed by Go Shiina) which introduces upper moon 3 Akaza.

This is one of my favourites as it completely stands out from any other score in the movie, with the occasional high pitched vocal, which emphasises how Akaza is on a whole new, incomprehensible level, and his entrance was a complete surprise and shock for the audience and characters.

The way it’s used in the scene, it heightens the intensity of the moment, and also drops to allow the scene to take a pause before exploding back into the action.

sound editing/mixing

The sound editor is responsible for the creation and recording of individual sounds, such as dialogue, Foley and sound effects by either finding unique ways create sounds in the real world, or curate them synthetically.

The sound mixer is responsible for putting those sounds into the timeline and editing the sounds so that they blend together in the film and narrative. The mixer creates a soundscape with these sounds the adds a certain effect to each scene.

A needle drop is where a pre-existing song that the spectator will possibly know plays during a scene from the start, which is used because it can create a heightened, most likely excited mood within the spectator as the song becomes the highlight of the scene and takes control.

Foley sound can be used in films to create effects that would either be too difficult or too noticeable to digitally create. An example of this would be recording the sound of footsteps separately to the sound from the footage to bring out the footsteps and make them more prominent in a scene.

‘Moonlight’ first response

I would give this film an 8/10.

One scene that I really enjoyed was when Chiron was telling Juan about his negative relationship with his mother. This is because this is a very open, revealing, and intimate scene. This is supposed to make the audience awkward as they talk about topics of homophobia, as when Chiron asks Juan if he’s the homophobic slur, the scene had a deafening silence with a lot of impact. It becomes clear that Chiron’s mother is nothing like the family that Juan and Samantha are to him right now. It creates a lot of emotion, and doesn’t need elaborate effects or camera shots, but just the raw emotion that the characters bring to the scene.

What is meant by “The spectrum of the arts”?

Throughout history, the definition of “art” has changed many, many times, and so has it’s purpose. At first, it was used in religious ways as a form of worship to the Greek gods, then in the thirteenth century what was classified as art had changed to a more mathematical and historical approach by the Greeks and romans, and now in the modern era, art can be classified as anything from rap music to horror films to oil paintings to crime novels, where its now used for more political reasons. Monaco created a spectrum for the modern art to separate them into their own main categories, the performance arts, the representational arts, and the recording arts. Here are some examples of each below:

The performance arts – real time performances, such as dance, theatrical productions and radio shows.

The representational arts – art that is presented through the pictorial/literary methods using established codes and the conventions of language, such as books, canvas paintings and photos.

The recording arts – A more direct presentation of art, using the movement of pictures to convey stronger messages to the audience, such as films, music, social media videos.
