This is England micro tasks

Use of sound: Shane Meadows use of sound is used to invoke emotion within the viewer. We see this through the use of his score composed by Ludovico Einaudi which play’s to show the negative effects that Combo has on Shaun.

Use of editing: The main way editing is used in the movie is through the various montages. The main one is when Combo and his friends go around and commit crimes against minorities. This immediately shows us the type of man Combo is and the extent he will go to.

Use of Cinematography: A lot of the camera shots in this movie are either close ups or handheld camera shots. This creates a sense of realism within the world and immerses the watcher.

Use of lighting: The lighting in the film is predominately dark and gloomy so reflect the area and tone of the movie. This becomes more prevalent when Combo is introduced and we see in his montage going throughout the grimy areas and committing racist acts.

Set design: The set design uses a lot of old and worn down looking props and areas to accurately display the working class areas of England in the 1980’s. The significance of the run down town is important to understanding why the character feel the way they do.

Costumes: All the costumes the character wear have significance to the plot. For example, the skinheads

i think the movie is 10/10. The film exceeded in balancing heavy tones with funny ones. It used a variety of different shots and angles which also added to its quality. My most memorable scene is when Shaun and Combo and his friends raid the corner shop, this shows the bad influence combo had on Shaun.

How Danny Boyle uses sound, editing, Mise en Scene and cinematography.

Editing- The director uses a lot of montages to convey the rapid nature of scenes. We see this with a lot of camera cuts and short scenes. The more emotional scenes use long takes for example when the baby dies.

Sound- The music used in trainspotting is usually played really loud to convey the chaos and draws the attention of the viewer and sometimes it is hard to hear the characters. For example when they show the montage of the guys having sex with the girls from the club.

Mis en Scene- The Mise en scene of the movie uses a lot of old and beat up looking props to reflect the time and the setting of a poor area in scotland. The lighting is mostly reflective of the scene so for example when the characters are depressed it has dark and gritty lighting.

cinemetography-

Trainspotting first response

My rating of the film is a 8/10. I think it had a very unique and compelling story with interesting characters. The cinematography in the film was stunning and used colours in shots to reflect the moods of the characters. I think the most memorable scene in the film is when the main character Mark is hallucinating and sees the baby that died due to neglection from heroin crawling on the ceiling. I think it is the most memorable scene as it is strange in an otherwise realistic film.

representation task 2 and 3

Stereotype- a Widley held oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

Countertype- an opposite or corresponding type.

An example of a stereotype in movies is that people from a foreign country are depicted as enemies and violent. For example a lot of action movies depict Russia as enemies.

An example of a countertype in a movie is captain Ripley in Alien. I think the directors do this to twist what the audience knows and change their prospective.

Sound activity 7

Guardians of the Galaxy. this is my favourite film soundtrack as it makes good use of needle drops as all the licensed songs are what the main character, Peter, listens to on his music player and is a big part of his character. It also creates its own triumphant music.

Sound editing and Mixing

Sound editor- people who are responsible for selecting and assembling sound recordings in preparation for the final sound mixing or mastering of a television program, motion picture, video game, or any production involving recorded or synthetic sound.

Sound Mixer- people in charge of mixing, balancing, and combining different sounds and audio signals, sources like microphones, instruments, and synthesizers, or previously recorded audio.
