Task 2

  1. The video game industry is continuing to grow and grow due to high engagement, leading to large financial returns for investors (this can be seen with the developer Take-Two having a 60% share price increase in 12 months).

2. Esports is the phrase used for competitions based around video games, usually multiplayer ones. They offer monetary prizes for those that win against other teams. The competitions themselves pull in higher numbers of viewers than some mainstream sport events.

3. New technological developments have meant that consumers can get games through digital stores and can play games on their mobile phones as opposed to buying a console. Additionally, cloud gaming allows consumers to play games without actually downloading anything, through the form of streaming.

4. FPS = First Person Shooter (a game centred on gun combat where the players see things from the POV of the characters) MMORPG = massively multiplayer online role-playing game (any story-driven online video game in which a player, taking on the persona of a character in a virtual or fantasy world, interacts with other players)

Bandura’s theory suggests that individuals learn by observing other, imitating behaviours , more likely to be infecund by a male. Putting this is the context of media audiences, he believes that media portrayals can influence the audience’s behaviour by providing them with models to imitate. Bandura’s view is different from Shirky and Jenkins view of media audiences because Shirky and Jenkins argue that media audiences don’t just passively absorb the media they are consuming but they rather actively share and remix it in complex ways.

Active Audience – Engages, interprets and responds to a media text in different ways and is capable of challenging the ideas encoded in it.

Passive Audience – More likely to accept the messages encoded in a media text without challenge and are therefore more likely to be directly affected by the messages.

Extension: Explain the ways in which media products are thought to impact on audiences cognitively, affectively and behaviourally?

Media products can impact audiences because they can provide them with dramaticised information that they believe is factual and real.

statement of intent

For my front cover of the magazine, I intend to create the theme of beauty as my main style to attract fashion icons and women-middle aged/teens. This will consist of a gorgeous women posing for a magazine. I aim for these factors to appeal to any genders as beauty is embraced into everyday life. Beauty is known to be most popular styles amongst magazine readers, therefore beauty is applicable to anyone. I aim to promote my front cover in the style of the gentle woman magazine as named “angry women”. Hopefully not relating to stereotypes. The target audience I would like to direct my front cover to is women-middle aged/teens mainly being aimed for females. I have chosen this age range due to the style and type of magazine related to teens or middle ages women even though it is there for everyone. I want this magazine to make everyone feel targeted towards them. I have chosen the gentle women magazine as my style model (myself) because of femininity and the certain way I am in the photo, clothes, pose and how it shows us me a female and represents us as females.

I would like my title to be in front of my model because my company would need to be well known towards the audience, I I would like her to have confidence and self-empowerment. This opposes the theory of ‘the male gaze’ by Laura Mulvey, claiming women are represented as objects that fulfil men’s pleasures of looking etc. However, I would like my model to challenge this theory by looking directly towards the audience . I intend to make my model display piercing eyes towards my audience. I would like the model to look beautiful in nice clothes with nice makeup on and nice hair so hopefully it will attract my target audience.

Statement of intent

I Intend to create two movie posters and Instagram posts that promote coming of age movies- The Spy Girls. This plot of this film is about two teenage girls who are growing up and love to gossip, however they have hidden talents and need to save the world with their superpowers and must fight battles to conquer evil, the genre of this film is Spy-Fi and will be revealed as a sequel realised in the summertime. This film has a famous movie star power. RUBY WAREN! A famous actor who could attract people to this movie. The contributors will have a positive impact as good performances improve movie quality. The director, Trina Morgan has made very successful films such as Harry Potter. Both characters will influence people to watch the movie as the film is staring two famous and successful people in the film industry. This film and the ideas will be posted on Gentlewomen magazine which focus on modern women of style and purpose. The Gentlewoman celebrates modern women of style and purpose. Its fabulous biannual magazine offers a fresh and intelligent perspective on fashion that’s focused on personal style – the way women look, think and dress, which I think would fit well with the idea and background of this movie as its about two teens growing up, they love to dress nice and gossip and be teens, but the world has other plans for them. It will target the primary audience of late teens specifically females as there will be strong language and violence depicted in this film as the film primarily talks about girls talking which would attract teens as this is how they behave and would show a perspective of their day-to-day life but done in a film. Representation is very important in any product and shot composition is even more vital in photoshop. Therefore, my variety of images will contain a range of angles including low angles and different shots to make the art look bigger and more powerful.

This is a movie about women being heroes which is something you don’t see that much nowadays because its usually men. Its a sci-fi movie which shows that women love women hood but also need to fight of criminals and aliens to save the world and they end up saving the world.

I have promoted this by making a film poster and Instagram posts to advertise.

This is because there is lots of diversity within these scheme of movie in media as men can be sexist and stereotypical and view it in a way that women cannot promote this role because of the male gaze as women should be objectified and sexualised in the eyes of men.

My target audience mostly aimed at female girl who love to gossip and love to see drama on tv. It takes an insight on guns, fights, and drama, targeted at an age range of 17-year-olds. It’s a UK based movie.

The liberal theory of press freedom

Freedom of the press or freedom of the media is the fundamental principle that communication and expression through various media, including printed and electronic media, especially published materials, should be considered a right to be exercised freely.

What is the liberal theory?

Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property and equality before the law.

Watchdog

Watchdog journalism is a form of investigative journalism where journalists, authors or publishers of a news publication fact-check and interview political and public figures to increase accountability in democratic governance systems.

Watchdog journalists gather information about the actions of people in power and inform the public in order to hold elected officials to account. This requires maintaining a certain professional distance from people in power.
