You must complete a Statement of Intent that

WHY rather than WHAT

For my two media products I am planning on doing brief 3 where I need to create 3, 45-60 second tiktoks then 3 movie posters for my rom-com.

I have chosen to do this brief as I have an interest in movies, (ILLUSRATE)

Creating posters will help me gain stronger skills when it comes to making promotional products because SOME CAREER THING.

I want to create eye catching and informative poster HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO THAT? so I can ensure better coverage/promotion for this movie so that it is able to reach a wider audience.

I will be trying to focus on using semiotics when creating these videos and posters – WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? USING SIGNS AND SIGNIFIERS ???

I would like them so tell a story so I intend to make sure the posters have the equilibrium distribution and new equilibrium just like any film would have in order to create a story. ILLUSTRATE . . .

The videos will be a lot more successful with a flowing story (equilibrium distribution and new equilibrium)with the as they will entice the viewers more and create a better and easier to understand concept/story. I also think it would be useful to try and use some signs and signifiers in the posters as in a poster it is obviously harder to tell a story but by using signs.

For my media product I will be targeting a younger audience. Teenagers most likely aged 13-18 however i do believe it would interest most of gen-z as my movie is going to be centred around teenagers probably aged around 16-17 as it’s a coming of age movie so it’s going to focus on these two teenage girls who are currently in school.

However because this does focus on teenage girls the target demographic is going to be girls as they are more likely going to be able to relate to things in the movie compared to most teenage guys. Also the subject of LGBT relationships is quite a will most likely attract that community because it gives that community representation which they often lack. PSYCHOGRAPHIC PROFILES, GAUNTLET (REPRESENTATION), BUTLER (GENDER AS PERFORMANCE)

My product will be defying social norms as it is going to be showing a lesbian couple which is a lot more accepted now compared to even 20 years ago however it’s still not completely accepted by many people. So I will be taking risks in terms of marketing as using a heterosexual couple would eliminate more risks and maximise profits as its a lot more socially accepted.

NEA-Brief 5

Statement of Intent

In my NEA I chose the brief 5, I considered this brief because I feel passionately and interested in this area of awareness about this topic.

My aims for creating these promotional campaign products are that they interest primarily the young audience, in order to make it interesting and intrigue their attention span, the materials can’t include much writing and the writing needs to be bold in order to be seen and read.

I am interested as well as concerned with the effects caused by climate change and I do find it vital that other people know about it too as it doesn’t just affect one individual, it affects all of us. I think creating an element of emotion/ anger in my promotional material may help bring out a sort of empathy in the audience and I believe if an older audience sees a younger individual present a message or any piece of information that is some sort of upsetting they may feel more likely to be sorry and follow through with what message they are spreading.

As well as the audience being of a lower age category, the viewers may also be described as, in terms of Psychographic profiling “Aspirers” as they are the type of people that may want to aim to improve themselves, and in the topic of climate change, they may want to change a habit that they have or continuous behavior of negatively impacting the planet which can be changed. Another category of people that can be explored in this is “Mainstreamers” as these people may just take an interest in the topic of discussion as many people are bringing it up and rioting instead of actually understanding the background for all of its negative effects, destruction, and reasoning.

I’m planning to create three different types of online promotional material as well as three promotion Tiktok videos talking about the topic in the second section too.

For my first online promotional material I’m thinking of creating a pop-up style advert that may be displayed when entering a website, I believe it is important to make this pop-up advert as it may interest viewers as they may be keen on getting more involved with events and other sources or supporting climate change, producing this will mean as well that they feel included and understand and learn more about the broad topic being climate change.

Statement of Intent

I have chosen the brief of a gaming magazine and print advertisements because I enjoy playing a variety of different video games (multiplayer games, story games etc) in my spare time and therefore have a good knowledge around the industry and technology involved and what people similar to myself would be interested in reading.  Additionally, from previous NEA experience, I am familiar with the elements required for a magazine.

For some of my images, I will obscure things like faces so that I can build enigma codes (Roland Barthes). This creates intrigue for readers, who would then want to purchase what they see depicted in the magazine or adverts. The heavy use of fiction in the products creates an opportunity of audience escapism, as suggested by the Uses and Gratifications theory. Another way I can connect to this theory is by including direct address in the language of the magazine’s cover lines. Using a third person perspective on images on the cover and adverts could signify that the people present on those specific images are the heroes of the narratives, as stated by Propp. In terms of psychographic profiling, my products will likely appeal mostly to seekers, who are always looking forward to what’s next and are focused on excitement towards something (that ‘thing’ being the likes of new video games, social events and films).

My target audience will be primarily teenage boys aged 16-18, since they are the main demographic for video games. There will not be a specific level of education required for readers, since gaming is generally an activity for a large variety of people. My products will be easy to engage with, with large image, text with a simplistic design and informal language to appeal to my target audience, who wouldn’t want an overcomplicated product. I will also blend in other subjects that readers would be interested in, such as sports and films, and connect them with video games in order to maximise audiences.

My intention is to use props such as game controllers on the magazine cover in order to reinforce the genre. Because the majority of video games aren’t entirely photo-realistic, I intend to edit some of my images to appear more similar to those of screenshots from in-game to denote that the magazine follows the topic of video games less than it does the real world. Additionally, I will refer to ‘maps’ from multiplayer games on one of my coverlines so that the focus of the magazine is connoted through game-related jargon.

I will include frequent references to online material that is connected to the products, in order to establish convergence between print and digital media, since this is an ever growing market that is actually surpassing print methods in popularity.  This will include websites and social media accounts for the magazine and advertisement, as expected from traditional versions of similar products. This can also be applied to the Uses and Gratifications theory, as digital synergy allows for active readers to engage in social interaction.

Statement of intent.

The demographic for my 4 media products is both male and females ranging from mid-teens to late twenties who have an interest in the music scene, particularly the genre of modern indie rock.

The psychographics of my audience could be categorized as laid back. This group is very easy-going, and commonly express themselves through the music they listen to. They are a new-age group of young adults with a passion for what they believe in and their interests. They also may be open to explore and discover new interests like different music genres and styles.

My intent for my media product is to showcase the young talent that is hitting the music scene. My main product will be a 3-minute music video that will promote the music of a young artist from a small island. I will be using visual codes that will show that you can still be in education and young but still make a name for yourself in terms of music production. The video will be filmed in various locations, and this will represent the diversity of the music scene. The music video will also include a montage of pictures of the artist to allow the view to gain a different view and understanding of what i am trying to represent.

My subsidiary products will be 3 products intended for a music magazine, the first of these products will be a front cover that will be very simplistic and will allow who ever views it to be left in a sense of mystery and that is because it is also representing towards the music genre, it often leaves people confused and forged to gain their own understanding of the music. The second of the three subsidiary products will be a two-page spread and an interview with the artist will be documented. The page will have a central image of the artist and on either side will be the interview, in total adding up to around 800 words, there will also be some images of the artists family alongside of the text as it represents how he started and how he got there. My final product of the three will be a promotion for a music festival for up-and-coming indie rock bands and a special guest of an established band. The product will be full of color and life while also being simplistic, yet again relating to the music genre having a mysterious theme behind it.

STATMENT OF INTENT

I am producing a three minute opening scene of a tv reality show, the show will be available on  a new streaming service similar to Netflix with a PG maturity rating. I will be creating a show with a similar concept to The Great British Bake Off and The sewing bee. I took up this brief because I know social media is one of the best ways to promote any new ideas, projects and businesses. By using social media it allows me to reach a large audience, engage with people directly and easily share my content  as well as it being very cost effective. The audience I am targeting is a board mainstream youth audience, specifically a a makeup lover or anyone with  a passion for creativity and self expression. My Tv show will be the ultimate platform for young artists. My makeup competition is all about showcasing your unique style and skill, it’s a chance to let creativity shine. If you are makeup obsessed looking for a platform to show off your talent this will be a perfect TV show. as far as the industry my goal is to help young artist learn and grow thought many ways of makeup

Brief 2 Statement of Intent – Gaming Mag + Ads

I am producing two media products that cater to the gaming community, driven by my passion for gaming and desire to contribute to the gaming culture. I have chosen to focus on this brief because I find the impact of gaming on individual’s lives, its ability to connect people and spark creativity within the community to be very fascinating.

My target audience is anyone interested in gaming culture. My primary goal is to keep my readers informed about the latest trends, strategies and developments in the gaming world. To achieve this I will focus on addressing the specific interests and preferences within the community by staying attuned to industry news, community discussions, and the latest gaming trends.

To provide insightful commentary and in depth coverage, I will analyse industry developments, game releases, and technological advancements. I will prioritise authentic storytelling that highlights the personal experiences and perspectives of gamers, developers and industry professionals. This will involve showcasing a diverse range of content including diverse perspectives and experiences within the gaming community. I will also feature content on underrepresented voices in the gaming industry, such as female game developers or LGBTQ+ gamers to create more diversity within the community. I also plan to add a section in my magazine that highlights indie games developed by marginalized creators, giving them a platform to share their work as well.

To ensure my content is accessible to a passive audience, I will use language that is clear and concise. I will also apply Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory to make game reviews and new gaming content engaging and relatable. Additionally, I will incorporate elements of Henry Jenkins Participatory Culture Theory to encourage a sense of community and social connection between my readers and the content of my products. By supporting media language and representation that is authentic, inclusive, and diverse, my magazine aims to create a vibrant and engaging space for gamers to connect, learn, and celebrate their shared passion for gaming. All of this will help create a form of escapism and provide entertainment within the community.

Statement of Intent.

I am going to produce a media product for set brief 1. This is because I particularly take an interest in game shows and competitions. I enjoy shows with an interactive nature and I also have a fascination for television that motivates an active audience. My aim is also to offer an escape from reality, through a cooking show where young chefs show their skills and passion whilst competing in different rounds. with a comforting home viewing feel, that viewers can casually watch and become invested in. I would also like my cooking competition to portray as an opportunity for aspiring chefs to become successful and given an opportunity to show their skills. I will also have clear identification of genre codes and conventions when it comes to a fast-paced but entertaining show go all ages.  I would apply Roland Barthes theory of ‘an active audience’. I find this theory very interesting and would like to further explore how Barthes considered the meaning of the finished text e.g. song, film or advert and how it is to be created by the audience therefore a text always remains open. I would like to focus on this and further explore how a family or youth at home can interact and become an active participant whilst watching the show from home. I would also like to explore how tv can display light-hearted content, whilst also being inclusive, diverse and engaging. This could be done through work such as semiotics and narrative theory. The audience I am targeting will be teenagers. By creating a competitive, witty and a lad back series. I can target young teens by easily accessing their screens, with a skills-based competition that can be viewed globally and at any time. I want to connect both productions in terms of content and representation. For this, I will use similar settings, colour schemes and participants throughout the opening credits and will include multiple camera and film shots to be compiled together. I will also use consistent iconography to ensure the theme of my brief is still abided. I hope for my camera shots to look professional and high quality, with appropriate framing of shots and editing.

statement of intent

My aim is to create engaging behind the scenes footage of a new upcoming rom-com movie also including a few scenes from the movie in the three tiktok videos. The movie will be called ‘Except You.’ I intend to include dramatic scenes of the two lovers falling apart with clips of arguments and clips of love.

I will use representation theories such as Stuart Halls theory of representation, this is the idea that there can never be one true meaning to a media product. The reason to this is to make the audience question everything that happens in the scenes used and keep them engaged with the outcome of this movie. Another theory I will use is Blumler and Katz, Uses and gratifications theory. This theory states that there are audiences that are active in their media consumption and the media consumers choose to fulfil one or more of either; personal identity, information/education, entertainment and/or social interaction. The way i will use this is by using the idea of education and personal identity with the use of the movie being shot in a school and the two lovers are trying to find themselves i will also make sure to tie in the social interaction with the posts by asking for opinions in the comments.

I will use funny behind-the-scenes clips to attract my audience of 12 and over. I will also use slightly bright coloured clothes in order to draw in that younger audience. As for the over 12’s i will use some of the slightly more serious ‘scenes’ from the rom-com as well as the funny jokes made. This is a low budget independent film which means they will be working alone without any funding from major companies such as sony or disney, in order to show this it will not look too expensive but still a good enough quality to be a success.

Statement of intent

I have chosen to create a music video as it immediately caught my attention whilst going through the briefs and I see it as something that I would really enjoy making. I also want to improve my skills on editing. My aims for my music video are to create a visually capturing concept that appeals to a more mainstream audience, so they return to the song and create a wider loyal fan base for the upcoming artist. I also want to show the artists personality more through the video and display their stage presence to increase sales on tours and increase loyal listeners. I aim to have dancers with catchy choreography in parts of the song which could become a trend on social media, for example TikTok, this would lead people back to my video and it also creates interest.

During my music video I will showcase my knowledge. Firstly, by using a different range of camera angles, this shows I have read the brief and can understand how to do this. I will have the focus being on my solo artist, showing she is the dominant signifier. This makes sure most of the attention is on them and not the dancers in the background. I will achieve this by using a range of lighting techniques and being selective about the staging throughout the video. I also want to include elements of star power, for example including a surprise guest in my video to entice more viewers.

My video is aimed at a younger audience, roughly between 13-25. I would reach this audience by using vibrant colours to keep them engaged and also using trendy clothing for the artist and background dancers. I would also make sure there is high energy from the performers with catchy choreography that could hopefully become a trend on different social media platforms, specifically TikTok as it is heavily based on music and dancing.

I would make my video accessible on all social media platforms. I would publish it on YouTube and create Tiktok videos with a catchy dance using the song to attract people to watch the full video on YouTube. Additionally, I would copy the link onto an Instagram story and make it easy to just tap the link and just watch the video. I would use star power again here and have other famous people who aim their content at a similar audience to me to generate more viewers.

By using all these techniques to create my music video I will demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of media and my ability to create a successful and entertaining music video for youths.
