EXAMPLE: 500 words Music Video Brief

1.The song I have chosen to promote is ‘Sweet Dreams’ by my fictional artist Melissa. I want my video to focus on the social issue of feminism, so I have chosen this as the lyrics convey a message of resistance against male dominance and represent the artist as a strong and powerful woman.

2.As well as popularising a social issue that the artist is passionate about, the artist is also taking an opportunity to promote herself, by representing herself as someone that cares about social change. Furthermore, the release of this video will also allow the artist to expand their fan base by attracting not only their usual audience, but also an audience that cares about social issues.

3.In terms of Young and Rubicam’s psychographic descriptors, my video will be aimed at The Reformer, who is tolerant and socially aware, so likely to accept and support the social activism message told in the video. I will have my artist speak a monologue at the beginning of the video about how much means to gender equality  her, as well as encouraging the audience to get involved. This will act as a call to action for fans to interact. As part of this, Melissa  will encourage fans to tweet about the issue using #SweetDreams, which is not only a way of spreading the word, but a way of appealing to the artist’s audience of 16-21 year olds, who are the primary users of social media platforms.

4.Facts about gender inequality will be featured throughout my video in order to evoke emotion within the audience and anchor the videos message. I will also use close-ups of the characters featured within the video, and use extra-diegetic gaze to directly address the audience and represent the issue as more personal, by creating a synthetic personal relationship between actor and audience. I also want to create a parody of the housewife stereotype in the video to represent the idea of gender equality as something that is unreasonable and old fashioned, I will do this by having my music artist lip sync in an exaggerated setting and costume that mimics that of a 1950s housewife.

5. I will also create newspaper that follows the style and conventions of ‘the i’. The newspaper will act as a cross-promotion between my newspaper company and my music artist, by featuring an article about the artist and their association with the social issue. This will be beneficial for both companies involved, as it will advertise Melissa’s music video to the ABC1 readers of my newspaper, therefore expanding its audience, as well as promoting the newspaper to the fans of my music artist. Furthermore, a call to action will also be included in the newspaper article, asking readers to tweet using #MeToo. This is a form of viral marketing for the article is designed to create a “buzz” on social media, as well as for the music video.
