Due to an increase in the population (2 billion to 8 billion currently) John Urry references how this has created more isolation and individualism within the mega-cities. This links back to how society is becoming more alienated, and our identities (also due to more advanced technologies) have become more fragmented. – causing a huge struggle within rising generations to understand ‘their true selves’ and often leave them feeling lost and unsatisfied with their lives. Technical developments have also created a high polarized class division between the rich and the poor.
