Blue Story

statement of intent

For my two posters and sequences, I am going to produce a storyline about a girl of the age 17, named Mia, who goes missing when on a night out with a group of her friends. Later on in the story we find out that she has been kidnapped, however before this the police are desperately looking for her for 2 years. Within the two years her dead body is found but it is discovered by her friends that it wasn’t actually her body. She is eventually found by her friends but has endured a lot of mental health issues.

For my first poster, I aim to produce a picture of the girl (Fabienne) kidnapped with tape over her mouth and rope tied around her with the effect of it looking like her body is being swept away. On this I am also going to put the title M.I.A, which represents the meaning of Missing in Action and also gives an effect as the girls name is also Mia.

For my second poster, I aim to produce a picture of the kidnapper (Liv). My aim for this is for her to look creepy and mysterious, I am going to do this by having her wear a black hoodie with her hood up.

statement of intent

I intend to produce two different posters to advertise my film and my website through including signifiers that link to the narrative. I will create and introduce the central concepts, ideas and characters without explicitly revealing the details of the plot. My posters will include a female character at the age of 18 who is in a relationship in which her boyfriend is dangerously obsessed with her. One of my two posters will show Emily when she’s running away from Dan which is a crucial moment in the movie as it leads to the death of the protagonist and one is a picture of Dan, the serial murderer, with a shadow of a hand luring over his head. The plot is inspired by the movie ‘Fear’ (1996) and presents a toxic relationship due to the protagonists boyfriend controlling her and being overly possessive. I want the background to obtain essences of a dark reality of the . The poster will have an eerie and omniscient style, this is why the unnerving music by Ozzy Osborne is used throughout my film. The text on my poster will be minimalistic as I don’t want it taking the attention of the central image. My movie would be made by small companies who are owned by a large conglomerate such as ‘Pixar’, ‘Disney’, ‘Warner Bros’. Both posters distributed on streaming platforms such as ‘Netflix’, ‘Amazon Prime Video’ and ‘Sky’. Both posters will follow the same theme but from different perspectives. My ideas are based in a tube station at night time to create an even more gloomy atmosphere. One poster is a picture of the protagonist running through the tube station and one will be of the killer sitting on the floor looking distressed with a shadow of a hand luring over his head. The genre of my film is horror based with streaks of romance and action running through it. This is due to the start where the pair are in a happy healthy couple and three quarters of the way through where the use of weapons and violence is used.

My film is based on a 18 year old girl called Emily who lives with her parents and boyfriend, Dan. Dan is secretly an alcoholic and sneaks out of the house to drink at least 5 nights per week. No one is aware of Dan’s psychotic ways until he is found following Emily. She is always travelling around London for work purposes only, meanwhile Dan thinks she is cheating on him. Dan is possessive, slightly psychopathic and has tormented Emily since they started their relationship 3 years ago. One day one of her work colleagues walks with her to the tube as they are working together. Dan sees them together and follows them. In the early morning after, he finds them waiting for a train on the underground tube station on their way home from a job. Emily’s colleague leaves her and goes to the platform next door to go home. Dan follows him and kills him due to his misconception of their relationship. Emily sees, screams and runs from Dan, he chases her but she’s not looking where she’s going and runs straight onto the tube rails and into a moving train. Her ghost comes back to haunt Dan. After being tormented by what he has just seen, he goes to his local bar and ignoring everyone, drinks excessively until he is almost unable to walk. He stumbles through the lanes in the middle of the day to get home and feels as though he is being followed. He gets continuous flashbacks of the crime scene and starts to panic. Emily’s ghost continues to haunt him until he ends his life due to his uncontrollable paranoia.

MOVING IMAGE – NEA (statement of intent)

Synopsis: “End of the Line”

My movie is about a woman who spends the night out in London with her friends. As she heads to go home, she undergoes the London Underground. Upon arriving it seems to be empty, but she gets on the train anyway. The train is actually a time travel machine and each stop either takes her into the very far past or the very far future. A catastrophic event is going to happen and in order to save the world she must figure it out using the clues from each stop before the train gets to the end of the line.

Statement of Intent:

I intend to create two film posters to advertise my film though including signifiers that aid in expressing my narrative. I will establish the key characters, ideas and themes without revealing the entire plot. My film poster will include the dominant signifier of a young girl who is slightly off centre in the camera positioning. She will be leaning against the wall with the background of the London Underground platform behind her, in which looks worn and tired. She will face the camera but looking to her left and a bright white light will shine onto her face which connotates the headlights of a train shining on her and also how in doing this, a shadow will be cast behind her giving a contrast of brightness and darkness. The dark surrounding space creates a sinister atmosphere and the un-nerving elements of the narrative. This helps to convey the action-movie type with hints of sci-fi and thriller in the genre and the anticipation that naturally comes with it. As the girl is the central plot device in my narrative, I will ensure this image is of a high resolution so it is the main focal point of the poster. In the darkness of my poster I will put my title of the film which will be “End of the Line” which will be written in a red-pink writing and a bold unusual font to give a creepy/dark connotation which will allude to the synopsis of the amount of time that she has to figure the catastrophic event out.

In my second poster, i will include a picture of the right half of the dominant signifier’s face and merge it with a picture of a creepy tunnel with train tracks. The protagonist will be staring straight at the camera with a ring light to dimly light up her face. The picture of the tunnel will also be dimly lit to fill in the darkness from the picture before. At the bottom of the poster i will put the title of the film which will be in a white font and a more neutral font. There will be brush splatters of an orangey-red colour on the font which will connotate to the rust and the tiredness of the underground. There will be another brush splatter of dark red paint on the length of the poster to create connotations of blood which will add to the suspense. i have used the film “Passengers” as my main style model as it has similar themes to my narrative. I imagine that my posters would be produced by a small indie company who were part of a large conglomerate such as “Warner Bros” and the two posters would be distributed and exhibited by a large streaming platform, like “Netflix”.
