strike mini essay
In the six part movie we watched, Strike was a music only movie with no talking and it was also in black in white due to it being so old. the Movie was about a group of people going on strike from their work because they didn’t like how they were getting treated in the workplace so they decided to go on strike, it ends up backfiring and loads of people get killed and there is some really gory scenes, including a cow being slaughtered and bears being in distress throughout the film in all of the six parts
there was a lot of metric montage is the 4th part of the film, they decide to slaughter a cow and the form of montage they used was a metric montage. also throughout the film there was a lot of scenes where they switch from the workers to circus bears, comparing them to the bears. this montage is called a Rhythmic montage because they are being compared to the bears that are stuck in captivity.
Pans Labyrinth
How is gender represented in Pans Labyrinth?
- They use a lot of gold as a colour pallet when they were in a fantasy world.
- Shadowy colours when the Faun is on screen.
- Use of blue lighting when the scenes are sadder.
Analysis of the toad scene Ofelia wears a silk green dress; she wears this to show her gender and to show how woman had to dress all the time back in the 1940s, her taking of her house dress and getting all muddy is breaking the stereotype. the scene of Vidal chasing the rebels is significant because it is showing how committed he is to find these people and getting rid of them. The colour of this part is bright lighting because the scene does not really have any important emotion, however when the screen switches to Ofelia the lighting is a dark orange and gold colour, to show she is in her fantasy world and to show that she has a mood of being scared

Poisoned
*Chiara and Daria are at lunch at school sitting in their usual spot*
Chiara- Hey I heard that there’s been this guy who’s taking this revenge thing on all the people he doesn’t like it’s actually kinda scary not gonna lie
Daria– oh my god yeah I heard about that but we haven’t ever spoken to this guy before so we shouldn’t be worried
Chiara- well I did reject him once a few years back maybe he’s still holding a grudge
*Chiara starts to get nervous and fidgets in her seat*
Daria– he probably forgot about it I wouldn’t even worry about it hahahaha
Chiara- its not that big of a deal but he has been looking at me funny recently and I keep seeing him near my bag in class and when I look away he’s proper staring me down
Daria- he’s known to be a weirdo at school I really wouldn’t worry he does it to everyone don’t know why you are overthinking this.
Chiara- I don’t want to be all dramatic but I think he hasn’t forgotten and might actually confront me about it or something
Daria- you are being like super dramatic right now stop worrying about this
Chiara- yeah you are right he probably forgot that i even exist, I’m just going to eat anyway he definitely did not do anything that’s so weird.
*chiara bites into her food and realises it tastes weird*
Chiara– yeah I don’t want to panic but he definitely did something to my food it tastes weird, am I being dramatic? I’m actually panicking right now
Daria- you are over thinking this stop, its getting annoying how passionate you are about this LOL
*Chiara starts to choke and falls to the ground choking on her food and realising she cannot breathe*
Daria- Chiara stop messing with me genuinely it’s getting annoying it’s really not something to joke about he’s really hurting people.
*Daria realises that Chiara isn’t faking and runs to get help out of the room*
Daria- oh my god! she’s not messing about she’s genuinely passed out choking, I got to grab someone fast!
*when Daria leaves the room there’s already someone standing outside the door..*
Boy– I will never forget, ever.
boy- Chiara did more than just Reject me, she changed my life, she was the love of my life and she ruined it!

Pans Labyrinth
the context in the film, the historical context. we can clearly see that woman do not have rights and that they are all maids while the men are more soldiers.
the politics behind the film are that the captain is the boss and that he can do whatever he wants without getting punished and without getting judged because he is the leader and there is no one above him.
Aesthetics in pans labyrinth
Del Toro used a lot of different magic realism in this film. for example the Faun, he was a huge character through the film and he was edited in, same with the fairy’s that would be around him all of the time, it was realistic but it was also fake. it gave a supernatural feeling to the film.
the tone in the film was always dark and gloomy. they did this to show how unhappy everyone was in the village and it was never bright and happy, there was no bright colours it was always dull and lifeless.
Gender in Pans labyrinth.
in this film you can tell there is a huge gender bias. all of the women are maids and chefs, they are there to take care of the people in the house. And all of the men in the film are either doctors or soldiers who help in battle while the woman stay back and tend to them if they get injured.
the Woman are always rushing around cleaning the house, cooking all of the meals for the dinners and also taking care of everyone during their stay in the house.
the men are all soldiers who carry around guns and protect the village. the other male is a doctor to helps to treat all of the injured soldiers and the mother.
editing in pans labyrinth
there is a lot of magic realism in the film. the faun and the other monsters are fake and edited in, same with the little plant baby that Ofelia puts under her mothers bed. they edited it all in really accurately and its hard to tell if its fake or not, the fauns Fairy’s are also fake. the ending of the film where she is in the after life is all edited to look more supernatural.
Cinematography in pans Labyrinth
the cinematography in pans labyrinth was pretty simple, there was a lot of floor angles of the characters walking, for example there was a lot of shots where Mercedes was running away there would be a shot of her feet. the shot distances were usually medium close ups, there was not many close ups but there was a lot where we could see their face and their chests.
