A film editors job is to manage what to show, what to cut and what to cut to in a scene. They assemble footage of feature films, television shows, documentaries, and industrials into a seamless end product. They manipulate plot, score, sound, and graphics to refine the overall story into a continuous and enjoyable whole.

Memorable Scene – The fight scene was my most memorable scene. This was when Kevin gets told by the bully’s to fight Chiron, and despite Chiron’s and Kevin’s friendship, he still continues to beat him multiple times. This scene made me, as an audience member, feel empathy for Chiron and vexed from the bully’s.

This image is a medium close up. It is used to show Chiron’s facial expression and body language to show his emotion during the scene. The framing reminds us of Chiron’s identity being a shy school boy – shown by his backpack.

This image is a close up. It is used to show the emotions of Juan in the scene. As a viewer, this shot makes me understand Juan’s feelings more as we see his true emotions.

This image is a medium long shot. Its used to emphasise both Chiron and his surroundings and so we, as the audience can see his emotions while we see what’s going on in the background. This creates emotion in the scene and in this one specifically gives a sombre effect.

cinematography – the general composition of a scene (the lighting of the set/location, the choice of cameras/lenses/filters and film stock, the camera angle/movements and the integration of any special effects to create meaning

cinematographer – responsible for the art form of visual storytelling through motion picture photography

A director manages the creative process of the entire production, whereas a cinematographer focuses more closely on the visual aspects of a film.

Memorable Scene – The train scene. In which Arthur is sat in his clown costume and starts laughing to himself, then the three boys make fun of him for his uncontrollable laughter and they start beating him up. Then Arthur shoots them all. This was a memorable scene because its the start of his killings.
