Create a Brochure / Accordion Booklet in Indesign

  1. Create a new file

2. Select the size you want.

  • 3 page accordion
  • if you are printing on A4 paper, the max width you can select per page is 9.9cm.
  • if you are printing on A3, the max dimensions you can select per page is 14cm
  • 4 page accordion-
  • if you are printing on A4 paper, the max width you can select per page is 7.4cm
  • if you are printing on A3, the max dimensions you can select per page is 10.5cm

3. Select the amount of pages.

For a 3 page accordion, select 6 (3 pages front and back).

For a 4 page accordion, select 8 (4 pages front and back)/

4. Untick ‘Facing pages’

5. Choose the margins and columns you would like.

Columns allow you to organise text and images with more structure. It allows your design to look consistent, neater and more sophisticated.

Column gutters are the spaces between columns of text. When you need to add space between two columns of text in a document, you can use a column gutter

(You can edit columns and column gutters later if you change your mind)

6. Margins are the distance from the edge of the document to the content you are adding. This ensures everything is placed neatly.

7. Bleed refers to the area of the document that extended beyond the artwork area. Your background or image should extend into the bleed area but should not contain important information as it will get cut off. The bleed ensures there are no gaps when the image is cut to size.

8. In the pages panel, click the button in the top right corner

9. untick both the options that start with ‘allow’ – this will let you reposition your pages

10. In the pages panel, drag your pages next to each other to create either a 3 or 4 page accordion. In the below example, I am creating a 3 page accordion, so I have put pages 1-3 next to each other, then pages 4-6 next to each other.

11. I recommend creating a rough paper template to work out which page will be 1, 2, 3 etc. This will change depending on how you want to fold the brochure.Trifold Brochure Layout
