My Edits:

I have chosen this image as one of my sub selection as I really like the contrast and range of colours and shapes within this edit. I have used a few objects in which I found along st ouens beach. This photoshoot was related to Mandy Barkers work as she experiments a lot with objects in which she finds in the streets and beaches of various countries all over the world. With my images I tried to replicate the kind of work she does and put it into my own perspective with how I have laid it all out and photographed it.

Image 2,3,4

I have now chosen these three images in my sub selection as they are all images of individual objects. Within my photoshoot I made a variety of images, some where I had placed a few objects together like the selected image I previously described and also produced images like this where there is only one object within the image, this creates a very singular but catchy image where the one object stands out. With a series of these images together it almost creates a story behind it, representing all the different things I had found within my walk along the beach and that is not where these objects belong, causing danger to the sea life.

Final Images presented:

Here are my final edits from my Anthropocene photoshoot. As previously I used the shared folder to find myself a gallery backdrop and used photoshop to put in my images and present them on the walls. This photoshoot was meant to present pollution within our seas and how big of an effect these items can have on nature and on our animals which live within the oceans and beaches. I presented them in a beautiful way and tried to make the story of what its presenting deeper down into the images.

Anthropocene Photoshoot Ideas

Idea 1

My first photoshoot is going to be inspired by Chris Jordan’s work which show the mass consumerism and how that is effecting our world. I have chosen Chris Jordan as I like how his work reflects the raw truth by taking slightly disturbing photos. As I won’t be able to capture photographs very similar, I am going to use the littering aspect of his photographs. The places I am going to take photos are:

  • St. Helier Town
  • Havre Des Pas beach
  • Alongside roads
  • Fields

I am going to be taking photos of the amount of litter that I find in those places and collect it in a bag to try different ways of capturing it as a whole and then properly dispose of it in a bin. I am going to try to capture the images in a way that the rubbish is the main focus and by the end of it I will group the images together to highlight the extent of this problem.

Idea 2

For my second photo shoot I am going to do a photoshoot of the storm damage that Jersey faced after the extreme storm flew through the island. I am going to focus on the trees and nature that was destroyed during this time by the tornado. This will show how the extreme weather we faced, caused by climate change from society, led us to this disaster.

I will go around parts of the island looking for the environment that had been disturbed. The main theme will mostly be the environment, however I may take some photos of the buildings around as well as I think it will help to show the intensity of this storm and other effects of climate change.

I have taken some inspiration from George Marazakis as his images capture a different element of world pollution and ignorance. My idea links to him as the storm/tornado we faced is an example of extreme weather which is caused by humans. Some of Marazakis’ work that inspired me:

Idea 3

Mandy Barker Inspired

For this photoshoot, I am taking inspiration from Mandy Barker’s work on plastic pollution. I am going to collect litter I find around town, schools, the beach etc. to photograph against a black background. I will use different types of litter such and bottles, wrappers and anything I find that has been abandoned in the environment.

When taking the photos, I will have the pieces of litter placed on a studio table surrounded by black to ensure the background in only black. I will also use studio lights above to highlight the rubbish and show the contrast of colour in comparison.

Idea 4

I would like to take photographs of buildings that have left an impact on the world, preferably old ones with history behind them. I am aiming to take some of WW2 bunkers as they are significant to people and have connotations of the war. They have been here for many years now and still have an imprint on the world even so long after the war.

The ever growing problem of plastic on the UK coastline and just how much of an issue its causing for the environment. She was inspired to use the plastic from the oceans in her photography to create a montage of images from the plastic that she collected.

How does Mandy Barkers photography relate to the theme of Anthropocene?

Mandy Barkers photography relates to the theme of Anthropocene as the use of plastic and materials found by the beach is making people aware of the problem of Plastic Pollution and is giving a solution to clear it off the beaches to turn it into something beautiful.

Image Analysis

The colours in this image are quite bright but there is also a mix of dark colours which make the lighter brighter colours stand out more and attracts your eye to the image. The texture of this image is rough and the textures are all different which makes the image look more appealing. The layout of this image also draws your eye to the photo because of the size difference in the objects that are used, this makes your eye follow the lines of the photo.

Antropcence shoot 1

This photo shoot was done up in the valleys. I really like these photos because they show character and I included a variety of different locations to represent antropcence. Antropcence is all about us and how we can make an impact on nature, here are some images of shoot1.

axel hutte

Axel Hutte is a German photographer (born 1951) studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1973 to 1981, he received a scholar ship to study in London and a scholarship to study in Venice in 1985. He is now considered one of the main representative of the Düsseldorf Art Academy.

Over the years Axel Hutte has produced many gorgeous photos and collections. However, I am focusing on one certain type of photograph he has made and that is ruins.

For me these pictures symbolise the battle between nature and humans and how we as people abandon and fail to maintain things in which we have created. The places in these photos are not confided to one place. It is not an abandoned village out in the middle of nowhere. And the ruins are beautiful places they need to be maintained.

This is one of my favourite pieces. The colour is dull yet vibrant and the texture of the bricks is so clear that it looks rough and where the plaster and paint have chipped away. Having the door neatly line-up with the archway creates a long depth of field and the eyes are naturally drawn through the arch. but my overall favourite thing about this photo is how simple it is.

These are similar to a few photos by Thomas Sutton.

These remind me a lot of some of the heritage site around Jersey specifically Corbier light house, Mont Orguil castle and Gronzel castle ruins.

This one is interesting as it is of one of jerseys coastal defence towers, specifically Tour du Sud, La Carreire, St Ouens bay.
