Planner: photoshoot

I’ve decided to take more visceral images in the style of Rinko Kawauchi because I’m aiming to create a nostalgic emotion through my photobook, rather than an image.

What WhyHowWhenWhere
I want to find objects and places that create the sense of nostalgia and draw the emotions that bring back my childhood memories.I will do this to create the feelings I want to portray through my photobook as a wholeI’m going to make sure I bring my camera around with me and capture the things that create this visceral and surreal effect. I want to make sure there is good lighting such as sunset or sunrise because they give a natural orange tint that I can then adapt when editingI will plan some shoots at places that are nostalgic for me such as St Ouens beach/ woods, the sand dunes, old school areas, Les Quennevais precinct etc.

Planned shoots over the holiday break:

St Ouens woods – trees, shells, swings, the sea, full landscapes, close up/ macro lense

Sand Dunes & woods – Capturing the light through the trees, Judy Kurland style in the trees, footprints/ my dogs pawprints

Rinko Kawauchi

St Ouens bay – capturing the motion of the sea and creating hidden meanings through it, the movement with slow shutter speed.

PHOTOSHOOT PLANNING

  • Inside, on sofas
  • Long shot
  • Dark but warm feel.

PHOTOSHOOT TWO:

  • Staged photoshoot however candid look
  • One person

  • Smoking, creates a dramatic feel
  • Make it feminine
  • medium close ups/ close ups

PHOTOSHOOT THREE

  • Mirror reflection, dressing table shoot
  • Products included: makeup ect
  • One or two people getting ready
  • Extenuate the idea of what it is to be feminine good and bad (stress of getting ready everyday + the positives)
  • Create a few images of just the products: perfume, makeup ect.
  • Have a colour theme.

Photoshoot Plan

Photoshoot 1: Living spaces

  • take images of my bedrooms (parents house, grandma’s house, etc.)
  • work spaces (desks, tables)

Photoshoot 2: Streets

  • empty streets late at night or early morning (golden hour)
  • staged shot of someone’s silhouette at an ATM
  • staged shot of someone walking with a large backpack
  • shots of streetlamps illuminating road

Photoshoot 3: Abandoned / Empty Locations

  • exterior shots of abandoned/run-down buildings
  • (maybe) inside of abandoned buildings
  • car parks late at night

I want to combine these photoshoots with past images that I took during my experiences, and to write my own notes and explanations around each image, much like in the style of Jim Goldberg.

PHOTOSHOOT ONE PLAN

MOODBOARD:

WHAT?

In this photoshoot I will take inspiration from the Bernd typology work. By taking repeated images of the same subject I will be creating my own typology. During my time away in Poland I will aim to take a few portraits of my family members and places which hold significance with my family and time away. During this shoot I will be also be creating typologies through the stereotypical ‘documentary’ photography. However, with the return back to Jersey I will juxtapose and contrast my life in Poland vs Jersey, therefore I will also take images of my family here.

WHERE?

LOCATIONS FOR PHOTOSHOOT:

  • POLAND
  • HOUSE AND FAMILY IN POLAND
  • SIGNIFICANT PLACES (PARKS, CENTRES)

WHEN?

This images will be taken as I go away to Poland for the weekend for a family event. Hopefully I will be able to go back to take another shoot, however it’s uncertain.

HOW?

I will be using a camera from school so I am able to create higher quality images. I will be using the flash in order to create that ‘documentary’ style photography and create a slightly more authentic images, showing the events of the night and the function of the event.

WHY?

This photoshoot is designed to show my duel nationality, my life in Jersey and my life in Poland. By doing this photoshoot I am creating my own typology of my own personal nostalgia. By creating these images in my photobook I will be able to shows the difference within my life with my two families.
