my final images

I narrowed down all my images through the star rating systems.

until I found my the best five.

I have chosen my final images because I like the way it portraits the identity of the island showing of its beautiful views and the way it links to Andy Le Gresley landscapes of the island.

This is all of my final images in a virtual gallery that i created using art steps.

My selection process was very useful to narrow down from all my images to all the good ones then i looked to see which ones link to my artist reference the most.

My photo shop skills have definitely improved a lot through this mock. these skills could be further improved to help me work faster and more efficient.

image selection and editing

Here is a contact sheet with some of my images I have used the 5 star rating system to show the better images that relate to the identity of the island.

the artist reference I have chosen is Andy Le Gresley who is most famous for his landscape photography based around Jerseys coast lines and land marks. this shoot was inspired by him to show the identity of the island through the different experiences it has been through.

I went L’Etacquerel fort , it was built in 1836 to prevent French from landing near the east side of Bouley. now this fort is a symbol of a stage of the islands life that has past now.

This image shows where one of the traversing gun platforms this. I increased the shadows to create a darker sense to the image to represent a when the had to fight to protect this island.

Tourism and Leisure Photography - Andy Le Gresley Photography

Andy Le Gresley took this image which as a full frame of Grosnez castle, which was built in 1330 and commission for the farmers to take rescue in event of French invasion. so his image shows the heritage of jersey through this image. I like that he has taken this image from a lower point of view with the pink in the foreground.

this is a full frame of the full fort. I decreased the tint to bring out the green that has over taken the walls of the fort to represent the islands growth since it was no longer needed.

identity

the word ‘identity’ means the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. it is also been described ass, a person’s name and other facts about who they are. i would describe identity as everyones own individuality. characteristics of identity can include, race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical attributes, personality, political affiliations, religious beliefs, professional identities, and so on.

this image shows people expressing their own individuality as there identity through colourful clothing.

i was very interested in how Sam Contis explores identity in her own photography.

sam shows a lot of portraits that can show identity.

taken by Tom Kenedy

Tom Kenedy is the Hamptonnes photographer he takes many photos of many different events that happen at the Hamptonne.

I like this image because of the warm light that lights up every where. in the c enter of the image the bright green plant is very good contrast to the other warm tones in the image.

taken by Tom Kenedy

This image has a lot of bright contrasting colours and warm tones which i like. there is only one subject that is actually looking into then lens which gives a sense takes away a sense of privacy because whilst the others are seen to be talking in amongst them selves this one man in the centre of the frame wearing bright colours is looking at YOU. I like that this is a long full frame shot that includes every aspect of every subject

intro to studio portraiture

The earliest photography studio opened in march 1840 in New York. Alexander Wolcott opened a Daguerrean Parlor for mini portraits.

Louis Daguerre invented the first procees of photography.

Robert Cornelius was the first photographer to take a portrait over a year after the first image of a human being.

this is the first selfie ever taken ( by Robert Cornelius)

after this early portraiture people got much better at taking photos that show something and have meaning, they do this is through using light and shadow in a new way.

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn painted shadows on his portrait painting.

this was then adapted to photography

this shows the Rembrant light and the triangle is highlighted to show that this triangle under the eye is a key part of a Rembrandt light.

Oliver Doran is a commercial photographer

Robert De Niro, copyright Oliver Doran, Shoot.je

this is of Oliver Doran’s most famous portraits of Robert De Niro this image is very good he uses a modified Rembrandt light with slightly more of the face than just the triangle on one side. it is good that this image is black and white because it fits the subject well.

headshots

this image features the butterfly shadow under his nose. the image focuses on his eyes that are hidden by shadow producing a mysterious portrait.

this image is a side profile, where I edited in a lighter purply tone to create contrast from the background.

I experimented with this portrait uses a ring light coming from beneath lighting up the face. this is very hard lighting. the subject is making a strange face to create a more interesting image.

this image uses props to create an effect it has been changed to black and white because I feel it looks better.

studio portraits

this image has a Rembrandt light using the triangle of light under the right eye and is a full portrait cropped from above the knee.

this image has is a shadowed profile against a lighter background to create contrast. I turned down the vibrance to create a colder darker.

the use of the prop umbrella and I used another person to woft her hear to creat a windy effect.

this image is of luca i like the way the light shadows the inside of his ear and gives a silhouette to his face.
