Artists Reference 2: Contemporary artist: textiles & embroidery

The artist in which I have decided to be my main focus is Yulia Makeyeva as I find her work very unique to other artists. Yulia Makeyeva is an emerging multidisciplinary artist and founder of Connect With Art. She grew up in Russia and is now based in Jersey. She is very passionate about engaging the community in art, which relates to our project of nfts and how everyday more people are understanding about what they are globally in the community.

Fleeting: Installation View

I feel that this photograph has several different aspects as her work is an exploration of human memory and the memory of materials. This therefor makes her photograph unique to others as the materials in which she used has sentimental value. Additionally this photo may catch peoples eyes as you can cleary see the main focus which is the embroidery in the centre. However people may find the background distracting for the embroiders although i feel the use of a projector adds to the photograph as a whole.

CONTEXTUAL STUDY 2 ; OCCUPATION TAPESTRY

Occupation Tapestry was the biggest community art project ever undertaken in Jersey, and made by Islanders for Islanders. It was used so they could easily tell stories about how life was like during the five years in which jersey was part of the German occupation.

I feel that these tapestry’s that were made by islanders are very bold and vibrant. This may of had a significant impact on the viewer as they may understand the stories in which are being tried to outline within the tapestry.

The Occupation Tapestry was unveiled in 1995 and has since successfully helped Islanders and visitors to have a better understanding of this difficult period in which Jersey had. Below are several example of the occupation tapestry.

This link will lead you to be able to find more detailed information on the occupation tapestry as well as information on jerseys history during the war which is what lead to the tapestries.

PLANNING AND RECORDING- SHOOT 1

For this shoot we decided to ask 2 models to let us take full body shots of them in the studio using a white backdrop as well as artificial lighting. We feel that using artificial lighting will add harsh and intense tones.

Overall I feel that this shoot was successful as we achieved what we wanted. However we now need to use these photos to either edit other them using photoshop, or we may decide to print them out and embryoid other the top of the models clothing to produce embroidery other the top of their original clothes.

ARTISTS REFERENCES 1 – nfts

The artist in which I was inspired by is Toby Evans. He is a digital nfts artist who’s main focus was on digital fashion which is very inspiring to our groups main focus topic which is fashion.

Toby Evans work is very unique to other artist especially with traditional artist as his work is based on nfts. Additionally his work has several different visual elements. The tones of this photograph to the left vary as although there are several neutral tones there are also harsh tones towards the edges. The lighting of the majority of his photographs are taken by using studio lighting, which adds values to his photos as the lighting is artificial. Furthermore the overall mood of this photograph has a positive impact which may be due to the bright and vibrant tones used.

CONTEXTUAL STUDY

NFTs is a  “Non-Fungible Token” representing a digital file/item. non-fungible is used as another word for unique. This is why every NFT has its own unique qualities and characteristics which may make NFTs more appealing to some.

The Metaverse is the complete virtual twin of our physical world. It is the total amount of all the digital assets that live in the web and on the blockchain, which therefore leads to creating a digital ecosystem. The metaverse is a virtual space which is shared globally. Its created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 02-2-Lives-Promo.jpg

2 Lives is the first exhibition that will help educate different communities on what NFTs are. Additionally it will also connect traditional art to digital art and the finance world to the art world. 2 Lives is a new platform for artists to create, showcase and sell their work. The exhibition will do this buy showcasing NFTs through their multi-businesses opportunities.

NFTs in art means that artists can create their work and be able to sell it themselves making it more independent for them as they may no longer need a manger. This also allows artists to have complete freedom over their work because it is not bounded anymore to requests and contracts. NFTs in art can aslo lead to new collaborations between traditional artists and between artists which are digital.

Examples of NFTs in art:

Reaching for a Hand to Hold #2/3 - FEWOCiOUS | OpenSea
Reaching for a hand to hold

FEWOCiOUS speaks about the importance of his work and how it can help spread messages and the importance of his own personal story. He has successfully managed to staged multiple successful solo releases, as well as two ground breaking NFT collaborations.

Beeple, The First 5000 Days

Mike Winkelmann, better known as Beeple, has sold one of the most expensive digital art work in history. The First 5000 Days, sold at an auction for $69 million, which is one of the most expensive pieces Beeple has ever sold.

sTATEMENT OF INTENT.

Within the group we have spoken about multiple different ideas which vary from using a projector to project different sort of patterns onto a model wearing plain and simple clothing. Additionally we have also spoken about how we may be able to use Photoshop or a similer software to edit over peoples original clothing, which may show that the digital world of fashion can be easily manipulated. Finally our last idea is to print out original photos which we have taken of our models and either collage over the top of them of embroidered over them to create different designs.

Overall we have decided as a group we are going to create and develop a 3 minute animation we want to show sustainable fashion and the impact it has on the world and digitally throughout time which will clearly show the development on how its changed. One way in which we will do this is by photographing individual models and then digitally edit outfits over them or stitch into the photographs.

CONCEPT:What will the future of Jersey look like as a community in the metaverse?

3 words; digital , variety , irregular

a sentence; a place where any community can interact with each other through buying and selling items digitally, instead of buying tangible items.

Community mindmap and mood board

A community of the future will celebrate diversity, equality and inclusion and propose a new digital world; a metaverse where everyone is equal regardless of class, race, gender and age. A digital ecosystem that transcends all virtual identities into a utopia for peace, prosperity and progress.

For our group project we decided that the main focus will be based on the community of fashion and beauty. We decided to look at two different aspects such as; digital fashion (nfts) as well as regular fashion shoots in which we will use the studio to take our photographs. We chose fashion as it has a very different impact on all ages and communities this may be because of the different sort of cultures as well as the fashion in which social media may advertise as trends.

Throughout the different decades fashion has vastly changed throughout. This has happened very quickly as you can easily see the clear difference every year. For example from the 90s to fashion in today’s current time. However in the future I believe as so do many others that fashion will not only be a tangible object it will be online items which you can purchase and store digitally. Although this is already occurring now i believe this will become a global activity and will be the new area for fashion communities.

Presentation and Evaluation: 16 page photo-zine

For my Zine I first went through all my photographs in Lightroom to decide which photos work well together and which didn’t. I also looked to see how my landscape images would look like as a double spread. While in lightroom I also edited the photographs by adjusting the levels and tones, I feel that this will enhance my photographs overall.

Step One: InDesign – document set-up
Create new document
width: 148mm
height: 210
pages: 16
orientation: portrait
columns:2
column gutter: 5mm
margins: top, bottom, inside, outside: 10mm
bleed: top, bottom, inside, outside: 3mm

Step Two : While I was using indesign it took me a couple of different try’s to make sure all my photographs positioned correctly so I had to experiment first before making my final decisions. However I have decided that I want to include double spreads within my work as well as photographs with a white border to attract attention.

Finally aboveshows the final outcome of what I decided to do for my zine. I feel that the way in which I positioned the photos clearly shows jerseys communities and I also felt that the contrasts between the photographs works well. Furthermore I also believe that I have achieved what I wanted to do because all the photos have been adjusted and I have managed to include a double spread which I feel works well within the zine.

Photoshoot 1 – Merchant Quater

Route 1: Merchant quarter around St Helier Parish Church > Royal Sq, Library Pl, Bond St, Broad St, Mulcaster St, Hill St, Snow Hill, La Motte St, Colomberie > follow onto Ann St, Hillgrove St (French Lanes), Wesley St, Ingouville Pl, Belmont Pl/ St towards Minden Pl, Rue de Funchal walk towards Val Plaisant towards St Thomas Church and follow Route 2 in reverse.

We decided to walk around the route stated above and take pictures of things such as buildings, architecture, Portrait photographs as well as candid.

MY PHOTOGRAPHS:

MY BEST PHOTOGRAPHS:

Overall I feel that this photoshoot went well as I clearly shown the different buildings in which we were surrounded by as well as specific detailing within the buildings.

Research : Zines and newspapers

Zines : A zine is a small-circulation self-published work of original appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via a copy machine. Zines are the product of either a single person or of a very small group, and are popularly photocopied into physical prints for circulation One also may cool a zine a ‘little book’ as there are usually not many pages within a zine book.

Image result for what is a zine

Im going to further create a zine myself using the photos which I took on the school trip where we walked around taking portrait photos , candid photos as well as photographs of the buildings and architecture we were surrounded by.

However on the other hand newspapers are usually in little colour and have more of a context to them as there are written descriptions about what in within the newspaper. Additionally a newspaper is also printed and distributed usually daily or weekly and that contains news, articles of opinion, features, and advertising. Furthermore as time goes by the newspapers are always developing and changing to improve the quality.
