Photoshoot Plans

WHO-

In the first shoot i will just have one friend as the main ‘angel’ character, in a white angelic dress and soft glittery makeup, and all pictures will only be showing her in this one scene

The second shoot will also be one character, my friend ollie, who will be in very basic everyday clothes in one continuous scene

WHERE-

This first shoot will be in my bedroom, with the background covered in a big white sheet to create a heavenly plain backdrop, and ill be using led lights to create a pink/purpleish hue to create a magical looking scene

The second shoot will be in a large window that overlooks rozel bay, and my character will be sitting on the window seat as a nightmareish scene plays out

WHEN-

My first shoot is planned for just after school in my house, as i will be using artificial coloured lighting the time of day doesnt matter

The second shoot will take place in the afternoon when it is still light, but a windy or darkened sky would be the ideal setting

HOW/EDITING NOTES-

The first shoot will need minimal editing as i plan to do the majority of my look pre-shoot, with the makeup already done as i want and the lighting set up to the hue i want already. I want all my photos to have a sharp focus and be largely zoomed in to focus on the models emotions and face, also to highlight the angelic makeup.

The second shoot will be edited to have a higher contrast, and underexposure to create a dark and largely contrasting scene to the magical purpleish hue of the angel scene. I might also use a slow shutter speed to blur some movement.

My Specification: Love

STORY: What is your love story?
Describe in:

  • 3 words – Human and Angel
  • A sentence – The emotions of a guardian angel protecting its designated human on earth
  • A paragraph – Showing the love between a guardian angel and its ‘person’. The feelings of protection, hurt, love, empathy of watching over someobody’s life – following the persons more bleak life, contrasted to a magical angelic scene.

Angel look inspired by euphoria’s character Jules, i would like to mimic the makeup and use the same purple hued lighting – the style from the show is referencing juliet at the ball in the 1996 remake of ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Character on earth just wears normal clothing and capture just mundane everyday scenarios in black and white with low contrast and slightly overexposed

Edit – try to capture a series of one nightmarish moment, that would call for an angel to be needed

NARRATIVE: How will you tell your story?

  • Story would be shown through 2 contrasting scenes
  • One focuses on a guardian angel in a purple/blue smooth looking scene, with elegant clothing and glossy soft makeup – mostly close ups with contrasting of showing emotion. Perhaps have a body of water with reflection shots, but also use as the means for the angel to watch over.
  • Second narrative would show the day to day ups and downs of life, through aerial view of events, emotions, places the character experiences. Have pretty bleak scenes in black and white. End with a happier scene showing character glance at a new love interest, have higher contrast/bolder coloured scene – would be cutting between Angel and human throughout
  • Edit^ – second narrative is going to be a sequence of pictures progressing through one nightmare-ish moment that would call for an angel to be needed. Dark black and white images continously but presented cutting to and from the angel scene

AUDIENCE: Who is it for?

Audience would be younger, millennial’s who perhaps are more spiritually connected and have hope through what could be watching over us. Could be religious or follow a culture that believe in spirituality and heavenly figures.

On first page use definition of guardian angel as a small glimpse to give more of an idea to the audience.

During book switch between full page and one image for angel, and multiple or reduced size for character.

photoshoot #1 plan-

WHO-

I’m currently planning on using a couple of my friends consistently throughout the multiple shoots as the main “characters”, and am thinking of choosing those who have a different “look” (clothing style, hairstyle, etc) to each other in order to have each person stand out in their own way

WHERE-

This first shoot will most likely be in a couple different locations, probably at the green by the Waterfront, and also maybe on a beach or somewhere by the coast, and I may be able to take some pictures in the car on the short trip between the two locations. These places are normal for us to travel between and we go to them regularly, so the subjects will be comfortable and at home in their environments. This way I will hopefully be able to take many pictures with several good ones in different settings.

WHEN-

I am planning to organise this shoot in the late afternoon, going into the early evening, and with the changing seasons I may even be able to capture some images during night/when the sun is down so that I’ll have a different type of light and make the final group of images more diverse and interesting.

HOW/EDITING NOTES-

I am going to slightly underexpose my images so that when I am editing them into black and white the background keeps its detail, the highlights of the image are preserved, and to retain any interesting shadows or light patterns that would otherwise be lost. When editing, I am going to be very experimental and just test how much or little I can add to the image (handwriting/doodle/scribble/borders).

A LOVE STORY- specification

PLANNING:

Below is a specification that provides an interpretation and plan of how I intend to explore A Love Story. This will include at least 3 photoshoots that I will complete in the next 2-3 weeks. It was also explain how I want my images to look and feel, including visual references to artists/photographers in terms of style, approach, intentions, aesthetics concept and outcome. The final outcome will be a 16 page photo-zine, sequenced together as a set forms a narrative that visualises my love story.

STORY: What is my love story?

  • 3 words: A love story.
  • A sentence: The harsh reality that not all relationships work out, and that love is not all smooth sailing.
  • A paragraph: My grandparents relationship showed the true hardships of marriage, it ripped apart my fathers teenage-hood, and left a hole in mine. As my grandad fell ill with cancer, my nan found new love with another man, leaving my dad and auntie in the middle or a raging mess. The close family relationships broke, leaving my dad without his mother and father, and me and my sister without grandparents. Their story shows the selfishness of love and how much that affects future generations, especially for me and my sister whom had no loving relationship with my nan. When my nan died, the classic idea of mourning was tossed aside; how do you let go of a love that was never there?

NARRATIVE: How will I tell my story?

  • Images > new photographic responses, photo-shoots etc
  • Archives > old photos from family albums

My idea is to use a mixture of archived photographs of my grandparents, my nan with my grandad, nan with her new husband. These photographs are all from family photo albums that have been passed down. I intend to tell my story including new photographs from my current relationship, and my parents relationship to link to the idea of the relationships through the generations. I may want to use some words or sentences to explain some stages of the story, and as well as this I may use my or my friends current relationships to contrast my nan and grandads marriage/ my or my parents relationship.

AUDIENCE: Who is it for?

Most image makers tend to overlook the experience of the viewer. Considering who my audience is and how they may engage with my photo-zine is important factor when I am designing/ making it.

  • age group, demographic, social/ cultural background etc.

edited images – love

For all the images I edited them in Lightroom. I made all the images have a very warm tone, by decreasing temperature, as I wanted the photos to have have sense of warmth, which relates to love.

specification

STORY: What is your love story?
Describe in:

  • 3 words:

A Love Story

  • A sentence

A story of loss / separation of a loved one

  • A paragraph

2 sisters who have a strong connection with one another. The eldest is 17 and the youngest is 7. The eldest is growing up and moving away so she slowly fades out of the pictures with her younger sister. To make it less repetitive I will also add studio portraits of the eldest sister.

NARRATIVE: How will you tell your story?

  • Images > photo shoots / studio photos
  • Texts > Poems / quotes / single words about moving on / away

AUDIENCE: Who is it for?

Most image makers tend to overlook the experience of the viewer. Considering who your audience is and how they may engage with your photo-zine is important factor when you are designing/ making it.

Teenagers / young adults who are moving on with their lives will be able to understand the effects of them leaving upon loved ones especially younger siblings.
