Analysing an Image

Image result for hassan hajjaj bikers

This image has a deeper social significance, as the biker group photographed ‘The Kesh Angels’ is going against the rules and norms of their country. This is as in the area women are either not allowed to drive at all, or it is extremely looked down upon. So their biker group is a kind of rebellion against both the government and the culture around them. The way the image has been set up also shows this ‘uprising’; all three bikes in the image are pointed towards the camera with the riders at an aggressive stance, which represents their attitude, that they’re not afraid to rebel. The two women on either side of the image strengthen this aggressive/intimidating effect as they have open body language and eye contact towards the camera. This mirrors the stance of the bikers in the middle of the image, but adds depth to the image.

Photo Shoot 2 – Editing Images – Continued

This is the editing process of one of the images from the second photo shoot; it involved a lot of experimenting and therefore the image change aesthetic multiple times.

This is the original image
I Applied visual noise, exposure adjustments, and added black bars to cover everyone’s identities.
I then changed the t-shirt colour to blue so that the person on the left is the only person in the image with white clothing.
I then went a step further and changed it to grey so that the person on the left is the only person in the image with colourful clothes.
Next I changed the hood colour from green to grey for the same purpose.
Then I selected an outline of the left person.
I made him more vibrant and increased contrast to make him stand out more.
At this point in the editing process, I realised that the image didn’t stand out enough, so I completely changed direction with the editing process. So firstly I applied a black & white filter onto the image.
Next I selected an area around the Levi’s logo to remove the B&W filter from
I merged all layers, then selected an area and used Ctrl+J to create new layer from it.
Next I added text, I liked the colour negative it creates when text is selected so I decided I will implement it into image.
Then I placed the text behind the new layer to make the image look cleaner.
Then I applied the previously mentioned negative filter.
Then applied the filter to only the front layer.
I also edited the text on the hoodie, from saying LEVIS to EVIL, it helps carry a theme throughout the project.
Here it is completed.

Photo Shoot 2 – Editing Images

This is the editing process of one of the images from the shoot:

First I applied the exposure filter; raising the exposure and offset values, whilst lowering the gamma correction value. I also applied a 50% grey layer on top of this, which i added the noise filter to, adding coloured as well as monochromatic gaussian style noise. I also but a black bar over the model’s eyes to conceal their identity, as part of an ongoing theme throughout my project.

I noticed the way the model is grabbing the other model’s jacket resembles cracking from an earthquake, or perhaps an explosion. So I decided to edit the photo further in a way that will help exaggerate this. So first I selected the area of the hand.
Next I bumped up the vibrance and saturation as high as they would go.
Then i selected the other model’s hand, further in the background.
And I applied the same filters to it.
I also selected an area of the jacket around the hand in the foreground.
I then increased the brightness and contrast as high as they would go. This exaggerates the creases in the coat, and matches the almost cartoon style of the hand.
Finally, I removed all effects from the hand in the background, as it took the focus away from the foreground, which is what I was aiming for.
This is the final image.

Photo shoot 1 – Editing images, continued

First I erased the right side of the image using the eraser tool.
Then I placed in the other photo I wanted and aligned it, so that the backgrounds of both images match up perfectly
Next I moved that image a layer behind the original image, which allows for both to been seen simultaneously. Allowing for the effect of them being the same photograph.
Then I added black bars over the eyes of both people.
Finally, I applied an exposure filter and added noise. The same process as my previous editing images blog post.
This is the final result.

Photo shoot 1 – Planning

For my first photo shoot I will photograph three people wearing multiple sets of clothes. However, they will all be wearing the same outfits; which will be a variation of bright, high-end clothing, and more monotone worn-out clothing. I will also encorporate elements of tableaux in this photo shoot by telling the models to have positive facial expressions and body language whilst wearing bright clothing, and the opposite whilst wearing the darker clothing. I will also edit some of the portraits together into a composite image. More specifically I will combine the portraits of each of the models wearing the same outfit, to create a sort of group photo of them all dressed identically.

Although composite portraiture is normally used in large group portraits, I will use it in my much smaller group of models as I only have one of each outfit, so having everyone wear it simultaneously is impossible.

This is an example of the technique I am aiming to use; except my photos will feature multiple people in each shot instead of just one person.
