typology analysis

when I thought of typology I wanted to use a wider range of the terms wanted to find a range of buildings from all different spectrums of history and movements,I did this is order to have many possibilities to contribute to my final outcome, becasue of this I took many images and angles of the same building, I wanted to present each building in such close detail and also portray that the image could be seen as three or two dimensional depending not the angle and representation necessary.

As I said before all of these buildings have different occurring qualities weather it was me wanting to couture a texture,a historical aspect of society,an urbanised areas and or a more Morden buildingsI did this as all of these present a different shape and have different occurring  qualities and angles within them.

I have already adjusted these images as seen previously with colouring to a darker tonal back and white ,or enhancing the pigment within the saturation, this is all dependent on the scene and what I am trying to achieve within the piece itself. all of my images are taken from right angles when cycling round too mature every element and angle of the image itself, which can not necessarily be parented from above.

 Grid set development:

I have slightly cropped my images in order to display them clearly alongside some other angles that I have taken,I have done this for all  of the buildings and structures that I have worked within. although many  of these images are mirror images and so near and similar that they portray the same composition and lighting, although they could be edited and both enhanced or even presented  together.

overall I think I have capture enough images to show that I have considered typologies although I did focus more on individual buildings that will hep contribute to my theme of form man made  sutures to enhance nature.

Joan Fontcuberta and James Casebere

Due to his aim of wanting to portray a truthfulness within his work and examine conceptual aspects of art his approach to art is unique. His propaganda and dictatorship of Spain allowed him to reflect his authority wihtin his are,his advertising had complete relationships between photography and truth but most importantly he believed that his humour is the most important concept throughout his work and called his art ‘postmorden’

How does Fontcuberta’s work compare to the work of James Casabere ?

Since the mid-1970s James Casebere (b. 1953, Lansing, Michigan) has been carefully constructing architectural models and photographing them, yielding images somewhere between realism and obvious fabrication. All of Casebere’s work is filled with highly detailed models of but in a juxtaposing nano-detailed space.he does this in order to create his’ constructed  photography’. He focused much of his work on minimalism and the emptiness of spaces to that of the expansion of prison cells to flooded rooms. He likes to promote hunting images that do not underestimate the use of light and shadow to form a sense of size. Casebere is interested in the memories and feelings that are brought to mind by the architectural spaces he represents. The resulting works are dramatic, surreal, and remarkably true to life, embracing qualities of photography, architecture, and sculpture.

This differs strongly to that of Joan Fontcuberta’s work and how he focuses on the interesting work in which we are surrounded to portrays aspects of surrealism and adventure within his images. the juxtaposition wihtin their photos are enormous yet both highly influential.

To me Fontcuberta’s work inspires such a depth of beauty and detail of action within his images,everything has a meaning and belonging while still being filled with many visuals. He also has many portrays of people within his work to show how a human ideal to the scenario.I chose this image due to the way in which nature is seen surrounding a basic human necessity, it proposes the state in which he himself lives and how he is tangles and almost retrained to the life of nature and a drawn very humanness aspect of not wanting to leave the bed. It is a minimalist idea but presenting in a more diverse way whereas;

James Casabere’s work prestos a beauty within. basic man made future as he uses the delicacy of light to from and enhance the stutter to become a life and shows a sense of nature though the confinements of human life.

Within my work I too want to show different contrasting elements of more simple and structurally dynamic images enhanced within light but I also ant more interesting and conceptually interesting images.I think both images are just as successful as each other and encompass what they both want to portray every efficiently.I chose to all experiment within His work due to the way in which he is able to show how he captures the landscapes an nature shots which will be the boom of my development shots. Although I think he most effect part of this research is how James Casebere uses light to show tones and stutter within his work which is too what I need to experiment within. He does also have themes of surrealism which will also help me within my project.

Mood-board of relevant images to project idea,And Action plan for shoot

Mood-board and brainstorm

As explained previously I want to expand upon using nature landscapes, urban and historical buildings and putting them into these situation weather it be the sea or the woods, this does create a surreal aspect to the images but overall creates an effective development of original ideas.I chose all the images because they all have a similar theme of moulding architecture  and some urban images to forms of nature, although I will further experiment as this is just inspiration and a theme in which I will too follow. I will edited all my image in a  similar method such as above, and editing the tonal enhancements and creating a black and white effect.

Action plan for final shoot

For the shoot itself  will need to visit around  varies separate locations, althought this will be split into four sections

1)the first of which will be trying to capture a variety of typologies of buildings itself, I want to show urban buildings, strong historical shapes and army grounds,I also want to show large buildings that hold lots of power within my chosen theme,This will also develop the formalism within buildings and capture the shapes and importance of tones also seen within the architecture.

2)The second shoot will be focused  on capturing natural landscapes such as Rocky grounds, woods and as seen above large tree trunks will also take images that are purely for the woodland landscape and  have a power, and  possibly a strong romanticised theme within them.I also want to capture landscapes in which I can edit a more surrealistic images to edit them such as the image above with the door in the rock itself.

3)The Third shoot will be a much more beach and water inspired shoot, this is to show the simplicity of the artists above and how I can show illusions and repetition of shapes and lines and formalism within the piece creating a specific mood

4)finally this shoot is a lot more abstract, it is a lot more based upon capturing light and city scapes with slow exposure shots,I chose to do this incase I can edit them into the image and create a more interesting intriguing landscape image.I have previously experimented within this in my urban shoot and think it was successful so will further look through these images.

After experimenting within all of this I will further edit all the images together this will be around two or three images formed and photoshopped together and then further enhancing the tones. I think I will have to do a lot of extermination within this but overall will develop successfully.

Artist case-Noemie Goudal +image analysis

Noemie Goudal

Her work that I am interested within is all about “observatories” this is a series of black and white images in order to demonstrate harsh strong structures such as concrete juxtaposed within the opposition of their natural equal,so in this case a calm sea.She creates this within using a two dimensional backdrops constructed entirely from paper by herself. This is interesting because it is forming a creates photography element in order to create a mass 3D feel. she consistently uses nature in order to show a more urban area and create an atmosphere that is not accurate to her surrounding when taken.

Noémie Goudal  has always has been drawn to nature and how she can use a combination of culture and combine them, she describes her methods as “invaded” by the man-made. Her strong attraction additionally to drama so also likes to combine all her learning into one. She has two stages throughout her work being her underline absurdity and the contrasting nature being relegated to a supporting feature. She has consistency said to have a deep  attraction for all but the most hardened urbanite. And yet water has had to give way to plastic, a word which has become synonymous with ’cheap’ and ’false’,although her work shows a beauty of nature and also illusion aspects. This is the conceptual concepts behind a strong majority of he photos.

I chose her as an artist due to her clear ideas of the formal elements trying to enhance the beauty of a strutrue that is man made, although also as a metaphor to demonstrate the obscurity of what humans do to land.

Image analysis

I chose this image due to the industrial impact that the center structure has,and also the impact that the reflection has and the power that it holds over the slow clam sea. There is a clear division and symmetry of three aspects within this image, this it the division of the building, the water and the sky, this allows a segmented and well thought out overall composition of the piece. I will have to do a lot of experimentation  in order to know how to successfully mirror a reflection within the water of the image as the object itself will obviously not be there. I think the tonal depth of colours all work very well together due to the way in which the centre is the main depth and then it gets light and then darker tones to the outside against signifying  a strong cut of shape. I like how the structure is such a solid model and how the cut tones and forms allow a strong contrast within the surrounding nature. the sky also has a hint of romanticism but is very reserved due the removal of colour and form to the clouds themselves. Her narrative is so transhistorical and transcultural she uses such simplistic images in order to prints all of her ideas of how she sees society building all these aggressive large buildings and this is taking away from nature,It is meant to symbolise life itself

My inspiration

I do think that all her methods from tones to the way in which she contrast her buildings to nature is all successful and the way in  which she too wants to show,I also think that the way in which she hangs her images and finally presents them is also successful and highly unique I too will put a lot of thought into presenting my overall last images because it is definitely one of the most important finishing features and I will experiment within this more after I have produced my images.

Development of my ideas:Altered Realities/Final Ideas

As previously I explored the idea of capturing landscapes and then editing them in order to show a more creative and dynamic arrangement of the pieces. I chose this idea due to the way in which I can capture romanticised landscapes but then additionally I can Also capture night sense and experiment within exposure and shutter speeds whiten my camera. The mirror movement of the composition also connotes a feeling of a moon and enhancing the overall beauty and natural concept to the pieces. However I have then gone through my images in which I already have and decided that these would not be the most appropriate as the editing and such is not as advanced and urbanism is lacking in many of the images in the darker tonal range in which I want to show.

Although when researching to find inspiration of altered realities many incomprehensible areas such as surrealism of joining typologies of buildings and nature all into one successful piece.

:

Firstly I chose this due to how it demonstrates both industrial and a more nature surrounding aspects of landscape photography and forms them together,it prosopeses an illusion and also a statement of history of what was their first yet the significance that both have are of importance. I was drawn to the connection of the house and the large impact the piece had overall,I do think this purposes an altered reality but also highlights a surrealism. The concentration of typologies of buildings and also a landscape that melds urbanism within nature, which to me is the most important aspect to the images

Overall I will now  focus purely on molding urban architecture within nature and how I either do this in contrasting scenarios or with the addition of camera techniques and editing to show slow shutter speeds and such. I could also further this within mirroring lines and previous experimentation with editing techniques seen within my urban shoots.

Due to me having this idea I think it would be effective for me to do more studies on forms and also typologies in order to get an array of buildings in which I can develop to form within nature.I do think urban buildings would also be suiting to attack into themes of nature but I would want to form a more accurate bond such as using a city scape and then slo light exposure moulding the images of night and an urban landscape.

Furthermore I could expand my ideas to being that of many different circumstantial places of nature that still conflict with different urban  or historic buildings such as seen above.I believe this will give more a lot more development methods of how I can accomplish this also surreal style and also how I can form symmetry and editing  wihtin my image and create them as a style of interest.

Final ideas of urban landscapes and psycho-geography

For my ideas I want to cpature  three main aspects within my urban landscape and psycho-geogrohy shoot.

Firstly I want to capture the slow development of urbanism and the contrast of black and white historical photos compared to that of the society now, this will done by visiting areas in which had a strong historical significance and taking the photos it the same place and creating a comparison of works.

Secondly I also want to show the Morden aspects of lines ands stature wihtin the world and how it has slowly changed. this is inspired by Edward burtnasky, this could be done by going to the dump or even just going to area sin which shows such large industrial sites that it shows a strong connotations to the impact on the society.

lastly I want to capture  more generalising urban landscpses form around towns want to show interposing dynamic shots and be able to edit them in an array of methods. And perhaps even take more romanticised landscape shots in order to use later on during the project.

Original images

I ended up capturing many images to show architectural  ideas o urban photography and then also large landscapes in which I had a wide view and so all to dit in an interesting manner. From these few images I wanted to show a diverse range from colour to atmosphere and the way in which the images were taken themselves.

My photos edited

I decided this image was very suiting in black as it enhanced the overall atmosphere of the images and also allowed an indebted tonal sense of different textures and creates an interesting rundown sense off environment in which I was in.I then added on a slow light exposure image in order to show a larger sense of freedom and abstract sense within urban photography. The mirror repetition with the light exposure creates an interesting divide and perhaps is meant to signifier the divide between the land in which we live from light Morden buildings to run down ones such as this.

Within this image it is was much more psycho-geography street based, as I was walking down the street in town I wanted to capture a normal photo of a realistic atmosphere in which many people travel through,I then further wanted to experiment within how each area of the image was so different and contrasted with a different aspect of architecture and also  a different theme as to what urban photography is. Because of this I tried to re-create the image moving the area but still in such a way the lines work together and create an interesting sense of structure and also light.

Within This image I wanted to capture a strong overall night time sense of a city,I then was inspired by my altered realities feel to the piece so wanted to flip and separate the image but in such a way you are still able to see what the landscape looks like.

Here is a similar image to the one above, I wanted to use a wide lens in order to capture the whole atmosphere of the piece,I then again additionally added on the slow shutter speed light and did this in such a way in separates the images and creates a new abstract feel overall.

This image is Alot more experimental, for the background I have a slow shutter speed image capturing the lines of red light from the light  and also the blue of the sea,I moved my camera left and right in order to have the lines segmented movement throughout, furthermore I then did the same as previous and edited on an image but this time in the place of position if was originally, this creates a random image overall but effective for experimentation.

This is the image of the decaying house, wihtin this image I wanted to exaggerate the colours and shows an over exaggerated feel of colour to the piece,I did not do any further editing due to me having already done this before.

Lastly this piece was a lot more collage based,I wanted to show how lines can be used structurally to add additional buildings and create dimensions that are not possible but do structurally work in the image,Also this is the same building in different angles and lightings which creates an interesting contrasting dynamic to the image. Also the large window to the right is from a 3rd separate image but again shows a different structure to the image.

Altered Realities,Hannah Hoch ans photo collage/montage

Altered Realities ideas

Altered realities to me is experimenting wihtin naturally beautiful or more urban landscapes and creating a new scene of nature and directional aspect of stature.I want to take a large array of images changing from the dynamic city scale and light capture to more forest areas and the nature aspect as a whole with the edition of editing. I want to show somewhat abstraction within the reposition and change of the images but also a new composition of interest and create a successful overall image.

I Chose this due to there is something strangely captivating about landscape photograph,I want to connect with the fundamental theme of abstraction and a reflection of altered impressionism to the photos,I think this artists above has so much interesting composition and also the way in which they use landscape to be inventive and capture the importance in the light and show the diversity of the world.

Hannah Höch

Is a German artist, she is well known for work of the Weimar period and when she was one fo the originators of the photomonage, she uses a type of collage ion which she pasted the images are actual photogohers and reproduction pulled press and widely ordocudec media. She was one of the originators of  Photomontage, this  is a type of collage in which the pasted items are actual photographs, or photographic reproductions pulled from the press and other widely produced media. Höch’s main aim throughout her work was to show fable and dichotomy that existed in the concept of the “New Woman”,she was one of the first females to start a feminist movement within her artwork. That movement was called the Dada movement or when in Dada,Her interest in the topic was in how the dichotomy was structured, as well as in who structures social roles.she aimed to dismantle the political discourse within the social roles of men and women.

Mind map

I chose many fo her politically icon works of her presenting women as equals to those of men in power, it shows how femininity is not a sign of weakness and how Male and patriarchal dominance is corrupt in the world in which we live today.

Image Analysis

Her work has a clear and development of presenting women as all equals even when presented against each other. There is also a strong sense of collage and a melding to presents a mixture of time and generation within the structure of ht apiece itself. Although many of the segments contrast the piece contextually makes sense as a whole. The colour are complimentary to the sense and blue is used to promote her self reflection of feeling of sadness to the way in which women are treated different to that of men.

Overall I could express some of her formats of creative collage into my work due to the interesting repletion of composition, but also try and use implication of themes of dominance within society throughout my work.

Experimentation of first altered realities idea

I decided to start off my experimentation with using my previous romanticised  landscape ideas and turning them into a basic square rotation;

Urban landscape image edited

additional edits:

Again this is experimenting. within panoramic images and also the composition in which an image itself is to be formed.

Mishka Henner And Edward Burtynsky

About Henner

Mishka Henner is a Belgian artists who is currently living and working in Manchester, his work is featured within the contemporary arts and working within photography in the internet age,he has been featured in many surveys over time.He studied at Lough borough university and also at goldsmiths college, after he attended school in London he stayed there for a number of years until 2003,he vised Tate modern frequently surveying many documentary photography which to him was described as ‘life changing’.Later on in life he featured on many broadsheet magazines and soon after in 2008 joined panos pictures. He has also been described as a modern day Duchamp, his appropriation of image-rich technologies including ,google earth, street view and also you tube. This is the means of all of his inspiration and where he is seen adopting his print-on-demand bypass to traditional models. This creates a unique sense of works which is inspired by many social medias but also the way in which we love as a group in society through  industrial urban-ism.

Many of his key works are between 2010 and 2015,Henners work is brought to life by the strong engagement of character and nature within his photography. many of his works resulted in print on demand books, films and installations that featured in large scale museum  within France,Canada, and then in the us.He works in the following manner, his new approach of photography is seeing light, photographer without cameras, the need to press the shutter is replaced by a direct interest in images, not necessarily in making images.

Image analysis

title of the pice:OIL FIELDS – Levelland Oil – Gas Field- Texas, Courtesy of Carroll/Fletcher

I chose this image due to the clear though out and interesting composition of the piece itself, all the lines create a strong presence of structure coming from throughout the image,He conceptually wanted to capture the way in which people are continuously walking in a straight created format for themselves and  rarely veering off the path,He took this from a birds eye view angle possibly from google maps and used a strong technological purpose.

ideas I would want to use within my work:

I too would want to take high elevated shots in order too mature lines and a structure within what looks like nature but man made lines’ think it is a clear representation of the path that everyone constantly walks, and how they are in such straight lines and create a parasol form. I think I will use his work more as reference and inspiration and will not do the same technique due to this being very  unrealistic to accomplish without a drone.

Edward Burtynsky

Burtynsky is a Canadian photographer and artists known for his large format photographs of industrial landscapes. His work is now housed in more than 50 museums word wide.He was born in Ontario and his parents then immigrated to Canada in 1951,his childhood is filled of watching ships pass through locks so a very outside oriented childhoood, he also had an interest within many industrial areas and the slow developing urbanism of his life. when he was just 11 his farther purchased a dark room inclusive cameras and manuals from which he practised and become an ammeter photography .he learned how to male black and white prints together with his older sister established small business

I chose this artists because he had a consistent view though all his work and only demonstrated different angles and heI did not change theme throughout. Much like the previous artists he focused very much upon how he can sues suture within all of his work,I again think this is interesting and when possibly will try to find similar scenarios.

Burtynskys most famous work are sweeping views of landscapes altered by industry, mine tailings, quarries, scrap piles, the grand, awe inspiring beauty of his images and is often tension within the compromised environments they depict. He has made several excursions to china and the country toys industrial emergence and the construction of one of the worlds largest engineering project.

To be able to take images like this I will have to get to very high places and then use a wide lens in order to capture accurately the whole ascent of the area itself.I could also do more night time slow shutter speeds and try  to capture  the light traces with all the given road paths because it shows even a more detrimental human inference of technology and building in order for human convenience.

Within this image you can see an architectural  side to the image and also the the structure to the image and the interesting sense of atmosphere that it brings. The green shows the small amount of nature left In the world and how it is now overpowered by the cities and insurable towns that we all live among.

This is my favourite image due to the way in which he uses the interesting and somewhat dystopian feel in order to show a theme of ruins and slow destruction that the human are forming on the earth, his works is done in order to show awareness of global warming and all the negative aspects that we as a society are distilling upon our world.

Ideas for the shoot

I would want to go to many areas such as the dump were there is a large change and a slow deterioration of the green and healthy nature within the environment and how that society and its gradual new buildings evolve so do the effect on the environment and also the people and living and trying to prevent this form occurring.I will only be able to use aspects of this work as I am not able to take images from as high of an angle.

psycho-geography

What is Psycho-geography

psyco -geography is an exploration of urban environments that emphasizes playfulness and also a sense of  drifting or movement, this also has a strong connection to situational international. This movement of photography was defined by Guy Debord as the study of precise laws and specific effects of the geographical environment, this is due to the means of the environment becoming more man made and not having freedom of movement and now a given route is always occurring. Everything is now consciously organised or not,on the emotions and behavior of individuals,This could also be explained by a box filled with inventive strategies for exploring cities and anything that takes a pedestrian off their predictable paths and jolts them into a new awareness of urban landscapes altogether.

How it was invented

It was originally invented to be developed by the avant garde movement, the originator of what became known as unitary urbamism,is highly influential. The idea of urban wandering relates to the older concept of the flâneur, theorized by Charles BaudelaireDebord and others worked to clarify the concept of unitary urbanism, in a bid to demand a revolutionary approach to architecture.

Unitary Urbanism – the synthesis of art and technology that we call for — must be constructed according to certain new values of life, values which now need to be distinguished and disseminated. The Situational’s response was to create designs of new urbanized space, promising better opportunities for experimenting through mundane expression. Their intentions remained completely as abstractions. Guy Debord’s truest intention was to unify two different factors of “ambiance” that, he felt, determined the values of the urban landscape: the soft ambiance — light, When freedom is practiced in a closed circle, it fades into a dream, becomes a mere image of itself. The ambiance of play is by nature unstable. At any moment, “ordinary life” may prevail once again.

what I like about psycho-geography

Is that there is a strong  sense of freedom of constriction within the art from, and also a strong sense of abstraction, there are boundless ways in which to conceive space in which we  travel and the individuality between each piece is highly interesting.

Location in Jersey

locations

Due to the urban  landscape and the development of humans and man made landscape soon forming the way In which we can travel and the directions in which we are now only capable to go.I want an industrial landscape full of urbanisation, perhpas this would be  done thought out the use of combining old fashioned images of the area in which I am in now and the way in which this contrast  to the current continuation of modernisation and the contrasting enforcement of time and the evoltuion of buildings.

Due to this I will be taking my shoot in the centre of town accompanied with old black and white image and how it has diversified overtime to become the landscape in which we live today. The images I will be using can be seen here:

I will visit all the locations on king street in order to correctly find and  accompany these photos in their official situation to which they were originally taken. I chose black and white photos due to the larger historical impact for the overall image, and also the lines and stutter within the images due to the history of wars in jersey.

This is the beginning of the street in which I will find suiting image and replace them in the new scenario, this will be accomplished by the direct angles and correct placement, it will be easier due to the common areas and the well known areas as a whole.

As well as more urban shots around town I also wanted to show edited comparison of jersey as seen as above, although I wasn’t able too capture many as there was a lot of wind to the print image itself wasn’t able to stay straight without support.

Here I wanted to edit the images In both black and white and also colour to show the Morden comparison and then also present the similarities of the town and present the only diversity of time.

wihtin my images I also wanted to demonstrate the focus within the hand and the black and white image and then the attraction of light and colour and a lack of focus to draw attention to the composition and the matching lines that once would occur down that street.
