CCA GALLERY

Overview of the cca gallery: The exhibition at the CCA gallery was a variety of more documentary focused aspect of photography, with some elements so highly edited when discussing new 20th century art and photography.

Going to CCA gallery I found two pieces which I belive could benefit my work and really influence the angle of my project. So far my work has been about the creation of beauty, However I have considered adding both beauty and chaos to form a disrupted narrative contrast, and I belive these two pieces perfectly fit into this possible expenditure of my theme. There is such a raw exposure of emotional expression, the sense of solitude and isolation coupled with the movement of the faces coming from within the centre of the composition, creating a new disposition of character. I also belive the use of red and black and white, creates not only a contrast between the pieces themselves, but both colours have strong connotations to strength of emotion. Red is a substantial denotation for that of suffering, pain and elements of blood. However, the black and white creates an element of exposure, as in you are looking into someone. This x-ray type of site shows an area well with-the aspect of your own chaotic image. My own work surrounding chaos could be produced more similarly to this work, but showing more of a movement instead of layered images, I will experiment with these effects, and possibly done with photos of different plants and mediums.

the artist: why they did this:

I chose this image also, as to my mind, there are clear connections to my shoot idea of self portraiture, there is a clear connection of emotional vulnerability, and almost a mocking or finding of personality. The character is presented as a form of mimicry, and done in such a way to show a vulnerability and a sense of false acts and emotions. I find it very interesting using objects such as a mirror to show a whole three dimensional view and performance of a person. I have spoken previously about the media within photography, and to my mind, this is a free flowing performance and an act of character, used in order to presented a certain display of masculinity or femininity, the use of the fist is only really visible to the viewer on the non reflected side, this sight of a tight fist accompanied with gritting teeth, perhaps is a warning or a clear dispute of women feeling anger and aggression as her posture and pose is very different from the femininity of the plait and jacket. I could link this to my project again finding what people find to be sad or happy and perhaps how unpredictable this could be due to someones appearance.

PUBLIC AND PRIVATE

The public and private was a very different exhibition than that of the CCA gallery. The exhibition was much more concentrated on the idea of pop art and pop culture. Much of the work was highly colourful, edited and abstract, made at the time of hugely monumental periods of popular culture. With many artists work such as, Andy warhol. Warhol was the artist who created the mediated expression, everyone one day will have 15 minutes of fame. I believe this is relevant to this exhibition as many of the works, were not created to from or create something seen but was to from and create a more controversial forming of elements. The exhibition itself was named ‘ pop icons of the 20th century, Britain and American pop art’ this work was emerging in the 1950’s in Britain and late 1950’s within America, the peak of pop art was in the 1960’s and went on to become the most recognisable art form of the 20th century. it was the revolt against the dominate approaches to art and culture and the traditional views on what art should be.

This piece I decided early on, was my least favourite piece I saw out of all three of the exhibitions. It is not to my taste, due to the wholly abstract lack of composition, showing three key areas, arranged with no intentional form scattered around the piece. Too, I belive the deep tonal red contrasting the the lighter abstract triangle, not only creates an uneasy element, but too contributes to the contrasting of red at the top of the piece. The lines are not straight, yet not so un-even to be considered an intentional element. I do not see the intention as to why this piece was formed, And this is my initial problem with the piece, It is definitely not conventional of art, yet does not, to my mind symbolise the revolution and refusal to show conformability of fine art previously seen. Additionally the contrasting of all the triangular shapes, to that of the rainbow and rectangular shapes , does not work well as an overall successful composition.

Lastly, I chose this piece as I found the use of the three primary colours, to be really successful. The piece itself, has such a strong centred composition with the primary attention being drawn into the female sitting down, the amount of levels within the piece allows your eye slowly to be drawn out and see everyone surrounding them. This piece was one of two from the artist Allen jones called table talk. I belive due to pop art being a more informal connection people are able to have and form a condition with art, this piece shows a demonstration of a real life scenario which too seems to mimic the everyday actions we all have. Not only within this piece is their a a clear element of seduction, but also a clear illusion of mystery within the piece, and perhaps a new form of seeing the male gaze. Their is also a clear juxtaposition of the women not wearing clothes and the male figure watching being dressed as a detective type of man. Because of this I believe it is changes form an unipersonal imagery, to emphasis a personal feeling and symbolism characterised into abstract expressionism of our own lives. Due to this piece being clearly a fine art piece and so not a photography image like my two previous inspirations, My intention of influence would be the way he so effortlessly captures an emotional connection shown through the sense of reality of the piece itself. The colours too are very bright and abstract which too is a pivotal element of seeing beauty within the world.

Historical references of black and white photography

Black and white images are authentic, they help us trace mans history step by step to his modern state. Its classical feel holds its true beauty. The first camera photography were invented in the 1820s, before that time, people relied heavily on traditional media for capturing images, for example, paintings, sketches, and drawings. However, when it emerged, it seemed to vividly capture more information or detail about an object than the traditional media. The first successful black and white image was taken by Joseph Nicephore Niepce a French developer. However, it got destroyed as the attempted to make copies of it. He was again successful in 1825, where he managed to produce a black and white image of a window

Printing is an ancient art, and colour printing has been possible in some ways from the time coloured inks were produced. In the modern era, for financial and other practical reasons, black-and-white printing has been very common through the 20th century. However, with the technology of the 21st century, home colour printers, which can produce colour photographs, are common and relatively inexpensive, a technology relatively unimaginable in the mid-20th century. Most American newspapers were black-and-white until the early 1980’s remained in black-and-white until the 1990s. Some claim that USA Today was the major impetus for the change to colour. In the UK, colour was only slowly introduced from the mid-1980s. Even today, many newspapers restrict colour photographs to the front and other prominent pages since mass-producing photographs in black-and-white is considerably less expensive than colour.

image analysis: I chose this image fo a multitude of reasons, both the composition is of a structured straight build, however, the angle of the lens creates a circular notion of growth and furthers the ideologies of a growing stark area of space. Although you are able to see the detail within the lines and the sense of narratology within the structuralism. despite there not being a choice within the fact of using colour of using black and white, It is clear this image is the most effective within the black and white tonal colours.

Black-and-white images are not usually starkly contrasted black and white. They combine black and white in a continuum producing a range of shades of gray. Further, many monochrome prints in still photography, especially those produced earlier in its development, were in sepia (mainly for archival stability), which yielded richer, subtler shading than reproductions in plain black-and-white. Despite colour being the primary conversion of photos, black-and-white photography has continued to be a popular medium for art photography, as shown in the picture by the well-known photographer Ansel Adams. This can take the form of black-and-white film or digital conversion to grayscale, with optional digital image editing manipulation to enhance the results. For amateur use certain companies such as Kodak manufactured black-and-white disposable cameras until 2009. Also, certain films are produced today which give black-and-white images using the ubiquitous C41 colour process. Colour can be a distraction; it can be dull and lifeless. One of the tasks of photographers is to simplify an image, distilling a scene down to its essence. Sometimes, that essence is colourless. Ansel Adams, discussing the differences between the two types of photography, said, “I can get a far greater sense of ‘colour’ through a well-planned and executed black and white image than I have ever achieved with colour photography.” When researching black and white photography, it is said to be something more then just a filter, as explained here ‘ There are seven essential elements of top-notch black and white photographs, which you’ll see shortly. First, though, is the most important thing to remember: You need to have a reason for shooting in black and white. Not every subject works well in monochrome. So, always ask yourself: Why are you eliminating colour from a particular photo? What makes it so important to shoot your subject that way?’ After considering this, I wondered what effect my images had upon the effect of the image itself. I decided all of the images I had edited to be in black and white were all for a purpose, and the direct effect of the colours created a more interesting effect to the final image itself, and a successful final composition.

shoot plan 11 shoots over Easter.

reservoir: For this shoot I want to focus more on the reflections capable of being caught within the water, this could be a rope floating above the water showing a more delicate and peaceful composition, or secondly to capture colours and more abstract photos of reflections echoed throughout the small waves and refractions of the water. I belive that this shoot Is combining my influence from both a past students work who looked at beauty within daily life. Also as the resivoir is a very open place, not only should I focus on the water, but the large sky from above, trying to capture a soft movement and also elements of vivid colour within the composition.

zoo: This shoot is a more lenient shoot, I believed I could choose a zoo as a possible location, due to the impact of possible new life, and also the more haiku influence of getting images from animals moving and forming colourful shapes and compositions, so birds and such. I was originally influenced by the image below, due to, movement and composition.

abstract nature shoot: This is the shoot which I believe will be the most transformative to my project. This Shoot is one which I have been thinking about exterminating with but haven’t experimented with yet. It is a more dynamic and difficult shoot in order to perfect, but this is the type of imagery which I belive is the most successful. I purpose to take this shoot somewhere like St Catherines, for the prime purpose of many trees surrounding the area, and too the ability to see all the colours and bounder-less extend that the nature reaches. I not only want to capture abstract throughout within different movements, and colour, but images which focus on shape and possibly more photos which cold be considered as fine art. One of the best subjects for ICM is trees. In general, you’ll see two types of abstract tree photos: a dizzying circle and a blurred streak. You can create the circle by rotating your camera during the exposure, and for the streak, simply move your camera up or down during the exposure.

self portraiture: I have spoken about this shoot many times, as I believe it will make a personal connection between what I myself deem as beautiful and as an almost exposure of my own emotions. I again have three basic ideas for this shoot as explained previously, being segmented, black and white, and using small discs and lighting in order to create lighting compositions on my own face. I belive this shoot will be an interesting look into what I deem to be imperfect and what beauty should be a standard of.

Older persons: I believe focusing on feature of myself is important, but it would also be beneficial to take photos of older people, focusing on different part of their eyes, ears and face all-together. I belive this could be a chance to symbolise almost an evolution of life and death ad the cycle of life, it shows a combining lives of people and nature, and I do belive this shoot Will once again show a more conceptual importance to my work, while too allowing separations of repetitive imagery within my own work. My primary inspiration for this shoot was a past students work. And it also reminds me of when I looked into the family tree of life, and moving and age signifying the beauty of life itself.

Light: Lighting painting is a type of long exposure that uses a source of light to create streaks on an image. You can create these streaks yourself with a flashlight, sparkler, etc., or you can move your camera while shooting a stable source of light, like a traffic light. Abstract slow shutter speed light, actually right light: A lot of abstract photography is created through ICM, where you deliberately move your camera while taking a photo. This movement can be quick and random, like camera tossing, or it can be a thoughtful long exposure. Either way, it’s a fun photography technique to play around with. this shoot is obviously one which is best to be taken at night time, this is evident to get the clear contrasts within the bright light and the firming compositions of other lights. I have two main ideas to which I could create this shoot, this being going somewhere which has a-lot of light as night time and showing a more abstract random composition of differing tonal ranges. And secondly like the image below forming compositions which are tightly thorough about and taking photos of a structure which is moving in a formative way repeatedly, this could perhaps be a complex light, or using many offer touches and creating the source of light myself.

rain: water is a concept form my last project I am very sued to observing, so I Believe technically I should not find this shoot to be too difficult. However I want to capture it not with the presence of peoples, but using its form to create its own composition and too influence a sense of peace and tranquility. The elements of light water, wind and fire Could really be a good start of what the natural elements to the world are so what are the most beautiful. Because of this I believe I should not only do this water shoot, going to the shower, and looking as real rain, but also look into the concepts of different natural elements within photography and how they can and should be perceived as beautiful.

reflection glass: I have in my past work experimented within the possibilities of using mirrors within work, but I have intentions to use it within a different context this time. I have experimented within the reflection of a cd previously, but within this shoot I want to try two techniques of directly flipping an image seamlessly, and then secondly using a larger mirror jut to extend lines and then further edit the outcomes, mimicking and showing a more rounded format of the images themselves.

Macro: nature close ups flowers, The macro shoot is the ability to photography beautiful objects such as nature, in such way where you are not even able to see the orin of what it once was, yet it is still beautiful. The opulence shoot I will capture and try and photography flowers close up, but I want this shoot to be a whole new perspective of natural elements and seeing them perhaps even in more of a scientific way.

opulence and luminance: For this opulence and luminance shoot I am evidently influenced by the the artists work: who focus’ on more abstract lighter work filled with different tonal colour of lights and darks. I have done a blog post about this shoot, so already have a primary narrative which I how I am and can achieve this.

golden hour: The book golden hour is a book created by Kim kang-He, With her second photobook “Golden Hour”, KangHee Kim captures the beautiful colours of the magic sixty seconds after sunrise and before sunset. Similar to her previous book “Magic”, Kim’s images are the result of intricate digital manipulation, blending elements of different captures to form surrealistic views: a street lamp illuminating skyscrapers from above, a man wading through a pool of clouds, subway stations leading into the bright evening sky and so on.
Her manipulations are never too glaring, and not there as a simple effect. Rather than questioning reality, Kim’s dreamy, longing scenes created from mundane situations are a form of urban escapism. To my mind this book is a proposition to capture the beauty within our surroundings, and possibly as she herself has explained a much more dream related aspect of work. The light used throughout this book is definitely the most important, the use of the light is the most abstract and important proposition the book can propose. Differing from my past experiences of haiku, this artists work can be much more developed into surrealism, and created through much more collage aspects. For this shoot I will do much similarly to this artists, and between The most significant ‘ golden-hours’ I will create imagery focusing very much on light yet also how I can both intertwin light within a composition and an interesting narrative.

Overall I believe Doing all fo these shoot will definitely create the final outcomes that will not only work successfully with each other, but too have an ability to work together with a narrative construct. my main aim is to create a theme where all the shoots work seamlessly together, and I am able to make a book and also a video, or perhaps a couple. These 11 shoots will take part over the two weeks, with myself going out everyday repeatedly to get these images. Due to the dependancy on weather the vast majority, there is no specific order which these outcomes will officially come to life. I will now continue to do further research into artists and differing lighting and concept themes which will allow my to find a purpose for each shoot and to find more inspiration to access the best possible outcomes as possible.

reviewing my current work

Using the mark scheme, I intend to annotate and explore how successful or unsuccessful my work has been through the past recent works and shoot, and which areas are the primary concern where I should draw my attention and create more work accessing the highest level on the grade boundary.

Currently throughout this project I have done, around 6 shoots with all differing themes. The first shoot was one which focused upon the combination of fine art and surrealism, forming elements of natural landscape and communicating themes in such a way to place a person within a whole new world, placing people within an art work and a fine art scenario. However, the idea sounds interesting, but the outcomes, I believe, are probably too surreal, that the whole objective of fine art itself is lost. There is no real raw representation of a photography skill or observation due to the lack of narrative and emotion, and completely photoshopped and falsely developed. This shoot will definitely not make it into the final book as I believe it no longer relates to my project, and too is not my most successful work so far.

My second Shoot was my first direct observational of the beauty around the home and area I live, However, despite this shoot having some sort of relevancy to my project itself, I do not belive it is the best representation of beauty or my life. The images although along the right track just do not show a narrative construct or are successfully to my standard and objectively I believe I Would want to present.

My next three shoots all used the same persons, it was done with three separate objectives. The first shoot, and in my opinion possibly the most successful, is a way of communicating a discussion of fluidity and structuralism, it allows a discussion between the model and the fabric itself, and an exposure and lack of identity. I believe too this shoot accompanied with the darker tonal background and the use of strong golds covering and wrapping around the body, has some if not many religious connotations, so could possibly be included within my new narrative story. My second Idea for the shoot was to show elements of chaos, within a different angles, many of which have been distorted in order to create a different persona or sorts. I wanted to use an array in order to get firstly a curved distortion that allowed an extension to his face, secondly I wanted to show a force of impact and a movement to his face, so having it pressed up against glass creates the illusion of the camera being pressed against his face. I believe this shoot was very experimental but if I tonally develop it in such a way, it could really be a successful performance of chaos, and really start to form an interesting concept of emotions. Finally I was inspired by the shoot previous ,to get more basic portraits, all with different forms of emotions in order to overlay and show a movement and struggle of inner emotions and chaos, forming a movement within the image itself. These developments are some of my favourite current work, I believe it is really interesting too see the forming of different emotional states all accompanied within one image. I belive all these three shoots, really started to help myself, learn what I can do to achieve a successful narrative to my book. It also opened up the idea to not just look at beauty but both elements, which is what I am currently looking at within reason of the church.

My most recent shoot was a long shoot which took around 2 hours, And I did this shoot in order to experiment within the different areas that I believed had the most relevancy and relation to the themes of haiku, so natural beauty within areas of minimalism. I believe this shoot was really a more successful expansion from my second shoot I had done previous. It allows more areas to focus on light and an emotional state and shows combinations of animals and people. I believe I could still carry out elements from this shoot, however, I do not really enjoy how I edited the image, they to my taste are too pastel and girlish, and I believe if I were to create more black and white imagery, it might create a more interesting narrative construct. I was recently looking at an artists who was trying to present light and darkness, and edited all their images to be a really light black and white all on black paper, and I believe this is a large central interests of mine, and I would like to produce black and whit images to possibly even be presented on black paper.

Overall I believe from my current shoot, they probably differ between different areas on level 4, nothing yet I belive is extremely successful, and I believe I need to tie the narrative concept up. However with the planning of my new shoots, I believe I could really both form the combination of all these shoots, and using the combination of light and darkness and the evolution of life, showing birth, light, and the run to death and darkness, will really help this project to prevail, As I would be able to use all of my images. I will after Easter once more look back at my work and see if my level to my mind has gotten better, and if my project is going in a successful direction.

asking people abouty beauty

I will start off by doing some market research as what is considered to make people most happy and what people think is most beautiful about themselves, And ways in which I could evoke these emotions and objects through my own work. I will do so by asking many people where I live and my friends, and possibly too looking into past research across the globe, and if what we see as beautiful is dependent on our culture and how much money and wealth we grew up with. This could also be 5 questions in relation to beauty and happiness. These questions will be

1.How would you describe beauty?

1st person: an individual idea that is a cliches within the eye of the beholder. 2nd: It is a construct of an individuals happiness. 3rd: something you personally believe to be over exceptional a personal belief 4th: well… specific to a person and what makes someone happy.

2. What or who is the most beautiful person of thing you have ever seen?

1st person: I believe the most beautiful thing I have ver seen is a new born baby, and puppies, innocent new life, something which is full of hope. 2nd: I think…the most beautiful things are the masters of art and architecture. 3rd: A landscape an idealistic landscape 4th: in a landscape the sun, nice weather , a reflection of happiness, you feel happier

3.What brings you happiness?

1st person: living in the moment, the comfort of my family and the stimulation of books. 2nd: Living without stress. 3rd: food, art my friends and sleeping 4th: music pop and a singalong

4.Where is the one place across the world that brings you the most joy and why?

1st person: Jersey, it is home and if it is beautiful, I love jersey. 2nd: being at home in jersey. 3rd: my grandparent house in France 4th: Corbier, it was were my pops used to visit form the age of 19-79

5.what are you most grateful for?

1st person; I am most grateful for love. 2nd: Health 3rd: being born into a privileged society. 4th; family friends and opportunities.

This is not only an insight to the subjectivity once again of the fine art of beauty, but the imagination of each individual mind. Due to the results from this, I believe people in jersey especially are able to see their privilege and do not take for granted, they love landscape new life innocence and health, to my mind they have perfectly described what theatre of life describes, they turn personal connections and emotions into locations. Also something which I find very interesting is that no one said beauty is people, most people associate within a landscape something they love or an experience, and I think this allows myself to see I am working in the right direction.

The natural elements: rain, wind, fire and light

light

So far my project has been about the bad is of looking more towards accessing different versions of light and more abstract communicates of nature, I believe this could perhaps be one of the large influences of my book. If I was to start breaking doen my project into four key factors is light even make the capturing of these factors easier to see.

Light is the most important basis of my project as whole. Light has the power to present and change how something or someone looks completely and whole. Because of this trying to photography light is an interesting and also a very applicable way which I could look into capturing my own work. Due large areas of my work begin more prominently focused on the presentation of landscape and flowers and natural beauty, many fo the shoots will be taken during mid day, this is interesting as this is possibly the hardest time in order to couture an achieve the most successful photos. Mid day light can be harsh and increase strong shadows and strong inflictions of heavy light, making anything look worse and showing an inability to really see the piece itself. However I too belive I could use this as an advantage. The over- exposure of light can also be seen as a heavenly and almost romantic way in which you can see something, daylight can elevate an image and bring about an almost type of romanticism. I must be aware o the image I am trying to capture and the effect that I want. However I believe with the availability to change the iso and exposure I should just have a large range of capabilities with what I am able to capture within my work.

This image in particular inspired me as their is a mystery, lack of identity yet still and evident and frankly obvious sense of beauty. Perhaps I too could bring someone when photographing my resivour shoot in order to help show copious amounts of ways I could express beauty within the water, landscape , light and yet almost the person themselves. Another part of light every different some this, is the slo shutter speed high exposure of night time shoots, trying to show a diffuse of movement is hint the light. I believe this shoot is also extremely important because you are theoretically appointing with light itself.

rain

Rain as natural element go is probably the most negative one when comparing it with its connotations and associations of sadness and dull. however this is why I think it would be so beneficial to capture it as an elements of beauty, and perhaps even happiness. Rain as we know already can be seen as a very romantic elements, where people fall in love of where peoples emotions are susceptible to the most vulnerability. Due to rain falling and being seen in so many different forms, the ability for this shoot is so much. I want to show different variations of how one elements can be shown romantically and to be an expression of self beauty and or a reflection. Perhaps I could even add in people to make the photos themselves more poetic as a whole composition itself.

I belive using the way different ways of tracing rain and using a piece of glass as the first shoot, to be able to show the droplets of water. Secondly I believe I am able to capture a more heavenly approach to the done full of water if I were to go out a night whilst it was raining and shine a torch in order to highlight and show a strong bright light, capturing the soft little sports of the other after.

Fire

fire is the subject which is probably the less applicable shoot for my project itself, as it is the most tricky to photograph and also as I do not. know how fire will directly fit into my narrative. My artists ads their own personal emotional influence on what they believe to be beautiful. Fire is a natural element which causes happiness but mostly chaotic fear, however if I were to concentrate more on the contrast between finding life within the chaos and pain of the world and still showing elements such as fire to be beautiful, it would benefit me to do this shoot. Despite water having sad connotations, it does posses the power to kill, unlike, it is not the same as the aggression and mass pain fire can size to cause. Water is meant to be beautiful even when drowning, however, fire is smoke, burning and a strength which I think people find hard to romanticises. The closest aspect tot his element I could fine within my work, is accessing the ability to capture light in such a bright or vicious way.

I do belive it would be interesting to experiment within the way you could show the same element of attitude of fire without the same colour tones, because of this I chose the image above as I believe it has the same movement and hectic feelings and attitudes that could too be seen within the elements of a real fire. I belive it could be the colour connotation are the areas which effect the negative feelings towards the aspect of fire, so changing the colour could make it beautiful without having to be over aware off the aggression of violence ability of the fire itself.

Wind

Wind is a natural element which has the ability to form and create new compositions, it allows something that used, to be still or static with hardly any life of movement to be a free flowing. wind is an element which can be described in many different mannerism ‘ a sea breeze’ a hurricane. These differentiating aspect create the difference between love and fear, which is interesting as this too has connotations between that of beauty and chaos. However I believe you could use the power of wind in order to create a beauty and movement within flowers and natural elements. in relation to god, wind could be perceived as an element of the trinity, due to this much of the experience seen to be a gust of wind in many religions is perceived to be an act of great power.

This shoot is similar to my first shoot, focus on blurring of the elements of the power of wind, and creating a fluidity within a solid structure, perhaps I could add elements from my pre existing shoots to help me discover and develop additionally shoots I could take in order to access a new more religious value to my work.

Painting into my image: experimentation

As an art student, I belive it could be beneficial for my work to progress if I were able to add another skill to create a more dynamic style into my own work. As I am combining beauty, a sense of abstract and light into play, it could really benefit my work if I experimented within the possible outcomes of using paint to create a dynamic composition and also images which to work well into my narrative without being incredibly repetitive. Not only does this style of painting not create a whole new piece, but the movements and lines only benefit and expand the composition already there. It is not creating a whole new piece which has no relevancy to photography at all, but adding a more dynamic feel to a landscape piece. Much of the paint itself, is then further edited in photoshop to make the image even more illuminating and create more of a premis for relevance within the original image itself. The majority of these images below are based off looking at the colours of the key parts of the original image. This too is how I would create my own composition. For this experimentation, I want to develop the possibilities of painting in two ways, physically printing off the pictures, painting on and then colour correcting on photo editing software after to create a clear vibrancy for the paint, or however, secondly I belive it would be possible to try and create these effects of painting on photoshop, however, I feel this would destroy the point to create a painted edge to the piece.

The concept of painting onto a photograph is much more modern and contemporary, and this progressive style. Ben Hecht is a truly unique mixed media artist, using original photographs and painting over them with handmade encaustic paints (made from beeswax). Instead of purchasing paints, Hecht creates all of his paints from scratch. He sources his beeswax locally, mixes it with dry pigments in his colours of choice, and adds crystallised resin to finish the process. He prints his photographs large scale (often over 40 inches on any side), and then manipulates them through the use of paint. He tends to play with photographs of the ocean, manipulating them by adding greens, blues and whites, creating a beautiful 3D piece of work that is part photograph and part painting.

These two pieces are based off the influence of clouds and the sky, and forming off the basis as if the clouds were to continue to form into a direct observational of art itself. The effect of the first piece, is more of a slight influence, only showing small lines overcoming the sun. This slight influence is interesting as it is not as a huge progressive change as others seen from this artistic work. The same smaller lines are visible in the second, but the amount has increased varies amounts. The copious small lines where done with the intentions to look as though they are small specs of light purposely found within this area of the sun or the sky. To my taste I prefer the larger thicker lines, however, I do understand why the artists chose otherwise. All the delicate lines work better within the founded darker pieces of the clouds and sun itself.

To my mind the image above is the most dynamic and possibly inspirational image for the forming of my project. Firstly they have edited a fold within the original image, so they knew where or how they could paint on the composition they intended. However, in this case the lights are edited on repeated of colour in order to form dynamic lines, and not actually physical paint. Consequently this is an option for my own development, however not my original idea. I belive the use of the bright lines throughout enhances the interesting light of line within the composition, and too the triangular shapes creates a form surrounding the tree and creating a subject of importance within the image itself.

I believe the copious possible outcomes is what interests me to experimenting within this painted or photoshopped technique. I will definitely experiment within the presentation of these images, As too they will create a more dynamic and again personal impact as I would be adding my own stroke and impact into the image themselves. The amount of interest found where the line is draw, creates a new sight of vision to how we look at a piece, and this is why I believe it is a successful technique.

specification

I belive through my past research It has become evident that my 4 primary principles of interest for my specification are, opulence, beauty, haiku and visceral. However, All of these successfully go under the subjectivity of the wonder of artistry. These all create attributes for exquisiteness into the world around us, and perhaps to see a new wonderment within ourselves. I belive I want my narrative construct of my book to have this movement of what I and others belive to see and have beauty within the world and ourselves, weather that be people or the world around us. I believe using the element of haiku and luminance to create more abstract versions of beauty. My book will also have an interesting narrative construct to each image and have a clear purpose. I not only want to present beauty, but with the twist of presenting it in a more abstract and fine art influenced manner. I will not only be doing more research into what it means to myself as an individual, what also what beauty means to others and comparing and contrasting them to demonstrate the beauty in everything. I belive with the combination of my shoots surrounding that of fine art, chaos in the media, natural beauty within a landscape, luminance and more abstract looks of a-landscape, this could combine to my project hypothesis, asking what extent do we ignore/ or should we see beauty in the world, what is our ignorance to our surroundings. To help with this, I will not only complete my own research of asking to others what they belive to be beautiful. But will research and respond within my own photography and experiments with further abstract editing processes to the images. I Have also started reading a book called’ philosophy of the arts’ and a more specific concentration of the book where it discuss the contents of art, pleasure and understanding this effect of a feeling that a piece of art and photo can give us a new understanding, love and effect of a feeling.

The book itself first starts off with discussing the effect of why we should value a piece of art. It is evident that many of my interests in art come under the influence of atheistic theory, as this is an attempt to formulate a theory of art that explains value , rather than to define what is is or determine its social function. What we seek most form art is enjoyment, just this simplicity of finding a piece in a favourable judgment, yet what is this difference from enjoyment to beauty. David Hume created the idea that that standard of taste is it agreeableness. This is then a further consciousness “to seek the real beauty, or the real deformity, is a fruitfulness an enquiry, as to seek the real sweet or real bitter’ however this aesthetic taste of what is considered beauty is a wide diversity of opinions about art that we find in the world is confirmation of this fact.

Due to my first idea being based on the fact of using fine art to develop social perceptions of media influence on are daily lives, so how we see the world based off moral fear and the chaotic causes of fake news. I belive it could be interesting to still involve this into my project. As art, as said previously, is the factor to see an aesthetic theory which is agreeable, it has to have a personal connection and reality to be considered as art but not as an unrealistic presence. So, Perhaps if my narrative construct was to focus on beauty, but not just the obvious beauty, but beauty seen within the hardships of the world, the chaos of real deformity and yet still to be considered as art, perhaps this is the most powerful way which I could show beauty. It creates the construct of social realism, and so does not separate the audience from what they belive is the reality that they see. This too even connects with the philosophy of HAIKU, as that originates from finding the beauty within the minimal, so in these terms, could be even within the pain of reality. So perhaps my specification should be: finding the beauty using the aesthetic theory of the haiku, within the chaotic media and the beauty into the everyday.
