Connected through Another’s Fidelity
Relationships are funny things and have a multitude of purposes or motives; some are platonic, some love or some professional. But in my case, my relationship with my step-brother was a by-product of my mother’s courtship with my step-brother’s father so this connection was out of my own control. As I grew older and matured, I began to understand that I actually appreciated the presence of the additional family members and how I was viewed as an older model, creating connections between me and my step-brother.
Other than my mother and his father’s unification, a crucial resemblance we share is the suffering from A.D.H.D. – Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a rather common behavioural disability, with researching portraying that 11% of children aged 4-17 have been diagnosed with the condition. My step-brother is currently ten years old which is the age that I began to grow out of the disorder so for me as an amateur photographer, I’m trying to embody myself in my step-brother through his suffering of A.D.H.D. Our similarities has brought us closer, enforcing our relationship is more than affinity but also a friendship.
The exploration of Noah will be a photographic study in which I aim to visually represent the struggle he and his family entails with dealing with his disorder as well as the treatments we undergo. This production is a stepping-stone to producing my photo-book in the region of six weeks’ time.
