Experience days

As part of the induction process for AS level Media studies there will be a number of interactions including an experience day lesson.

One of the key approaches for studying an academic subject is the idea that there are particular key words. As such, we usually start this course by looking at MEDIA LANGUAGE. In this lesson we will look at THE LANGUAGE OF PRINT.

Task 1: In small groups sketch out a mock layout of a new newspaper. To help use the rule of thirds as a layout guide.

Reflecting & Improving

Most likely you may feel that your designs don’t look very professional? One way to make them look more like a professional product is to think about the key terms that are associated with print production.

Task 2: Arrange the key terms (PRINT LANGUAGE) into 3 columns: IMAGE, LAYOUT & TEXT.

Task 3: Layout as many key terms as possible on a real media product

Task 4: Go back to your original design and identify which key words are present and which key terms are missing.

Task 5: Re-design your sketch using the key terms that were not present from your first draft.
