- Who is the primary, secondary and tertiary audience for this product? The Primary audience is the viewers of the show that want to watch it for no reason other than enjoyment. The Secondary audience would be for the people that want to analyse it eg. Critics and students learning about it. The tertiary audience would be people that only watch it because they can relate to what’s happened or have a specific reason and then they don’t watch it again.
- What audience theories can you apply to which help you to develop a better understanding of the potential target audience? It tries to reinforce certain aspects so that people know what’s good and what’s bad.
- What organisations (rather than individuals) are involved in the production, distribution & exhibition of this product? An organisation that was involved in production was the ‘Danish national public service broadcaster DR’. It was distributed by the BBC4 on and exhibited on television and streaming sights.

The Killing is a TV series in danish, Katz, Gurevitch and Haas came up with a theory of uses and gratification which shows that watching this series could be a social need because the people that watch it could want more knowledge of the world or for the personal need of enjoyment. Young and Rubicam came up with some photographic descriptors and this describes people who desire to watch the danish series would most likely be explorers and most likely not be a struggler.

In the UK, the first episode of No Offence launched with 2.5 million viewers, Channel 4‘s biggest midweek drama launch for more than three years.
The weekly consolidated series average remained at 2.5 million and finished 47% up on Channel 4‘s slot average.
In France, the first episode of No Offence aired on 29 February 2016 on France 2 and was watched by 5.46 million viewers, 20.4% of the TV audience. The next three episodes were shown back-to-back that evening and together achieved an average 4.6 million viewers, 19.3% of the TV audience.

CSP 4: THE KILLING
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lund is in her last day with the Copenhagen police force; about to move to Sweden to join her fiancé and transfer to the Swedish police. Everything changes when 19-year-old Nanna Birk Larsen is found raped and brutally murdered. Sarah heads the investigation and is teamed up with her replacement, Detective Inspector Jan Meyer. Troels Hartmann, politician, is in the midst of a hard-fought mayoral campaign when evidence links him to the murder. The girl’s family and friends struggle to cope with their loss. Over a span of 20 days suspect upon suspect is sought out as violence and political pressures cast their shadows over the hunt for the killer.

The Killing acted as a catalyst for the globalisation/ distribution/ popularity of foreign language throughout UK television. However, The Killing was first released in Denmark, 2007, and only aired on UK television 4 years later in 2011.
What audience theories can you apply to which help you to develop a better understanding of the potential target audience?
The reception theory by Stuart Hall – A more conservative audience may respond negatively to the Swedish liberal attitudes to sex.
What organisations (rather than individuals) are involved in the production, distribution & exhibition of this product?
The original series is created by a production company called DR in collaboration with ZDF Enterprises. It was broadcasted on Danish television for the first time in January 2007. After that, it was distributed to many countries worldwide. The show was then recreated in english for the US by Fox Television Studios in collaboration with Fuse Entertainment which was later taken over by Netflix.

Birger Larsen directed three seasons with 40 episodes overall of Søren Sveistrup’s creation that fits into the Serial, Drama, Mystery, Thriller, Crime film, Adventure, Crime Fiction, Action/Adventure, Police procedural, Action fiction genres. Birger filmed the series in Copenhagen with production from Dr and co-production from ZDF.

Background about the show
The Killing (Danish: Forbrydelsen, “The Crime”) is a Danish police drama television series created by Søren Sveistrup and produced by DR in co-production with ZDF Enterprises. It was first broadcast on the Danish national television channel DR1 on 7 January 2007, and has since been transmitted in many other countries worldwide.
The series is set in Copenhagen and revolves around Detective Inspector Sarah Lund (Sofie Gråbøl). Each series follows a murder case day-by-day. Each fifty-minute episode covers twenty-four hours of the investigation. The series is noted for its plot twists, season long story lines, dark tone and for giving equal emphasis to the stories of the murdered victim’s family and the effect in political circles alongside the police investigation. It has also been singled out for the photography of its Danish setting, and for the acting ability of its cast.
According to Vulture, the show is based on the true story of former FBI agent John E. Douglas, who pioneered criminal profiling at the FBI. The Netflix series follows the fictional agent Holden Ford, played by Jonathan Groff, as he interviews serial killers who are based on real-life murderers.
In 2011, a US remake was produced by the American cable network ACM.
