The killing + Audience theory

The Killing is a TV series in danish, Katz, Gurevitch and Haas came up with a theory of uses and gratification which shows that watching this series could be a social need because the people that watch it could want more knowledge of the world or for the personal need of enjoyment. Young and Rubicam came up with some photographic descriptors and this describes people who desire to watch the danish series would most likely be explorers and most likely not be a struggler.

• Constructed reality – The belief that we act and behave in a certain due to the influence media has on us.


Hegemony – Media hegemony means the dominance of certain aspects of life. The dominance a group has over other groups.


Audience positioning – Techniques used by a text producer to get the audience to understand the ideology of the text.
