style models

I liked this music video because it told a story in chronological order with a clear transition from equilibrium, disruption and then new equilibrium. I also like how the story is told in flashbacks and it’s interesting to see how a trivial matter such as shoes can lead to so many issues and problems.

I also liked this music video because it also clearly tells a story in chronological order. I also like the fact there is also a clear exposition, climax and denouement, the music video also links to Propp’s character type theory as we see a hero, false hero, villain, victim and princess and I like how some of the characters are more than just one type of character ie the protagonist is the hero, false hero and victim.

Lastly I chose this music video because i liked how it told a story through flashbacks and it has the stereotypical characters we expect ie villain, hero, princess and it also links to Levi-Strauss theory of binary oppositions as we see the contrast between good and bad, life and death and poor and rich.

Style models

In this video I would say it features many stock characters in individual stories that are all some how connected in some way. For example The black man being arrested would be seen as the victim and the police man the villain in this scenario. I would also so say that the majority of the characters are victims of the society we live in. I would also say the running in the video (3:07) is the climax of the story.

In this video I think binary oppositions are used, the video shows a disagreement between two groups (white & orange) which represent a male & female in a relationship. It could also be seen as a fight between peace and unrest (white seen as pure where as orange seen criminalised)

In this video stock characters can also be seen, the one girl who is seen to be distressed and commit sucide can be seen as the victim/princess that needed saving and Lana del Rey can be seen as the hero for trying to save her however not being able to save her. the victim is also seen in red which could represent blood/death where as Lana’s in white representing her being pure/ angle like.

Music video ideas+themes

I like the dark themes in the beginning especially when he is sat on his chair with a dark, black focus with the contrasting white background
I like the black and white theme that goes through the entirety of the music video and the atmosphere that it portrays
I like The dim gold atmosphere that goes through-out the video that creates a chill atmosphere and the gold tint gives ideas of wealth and “bling”
I like how the transitions and flow of the music compliments
the music video what creates a good rhythm and flow
I like how the eerie atmosphere of the dystopia theme outside is presented and how he is isolated in his flat from the outside in the beginning but then transitions to being outside, from somewhere safe to somewhere dangerous

Music Video ideas

I like this music video because it shows tells a story on how things can get better and you don’t have to leave when things get hard, the video is in reverse which shows the opposite of what can be a reality. This is radical to the dominant ideologies as people generally don’t try to make things better if something isn’t going right. They’re saying that if time is taken then this will help things in the long run. This video is also in reverse so goes against the general Linear format.
This music video shows a story on how we shouldn’t be so judgmental and we should take risks so that we can live our lives spontaneously, it’s showing how to find the positives in life and makes us see how anything is possible. It’s focused on changing your outlook on life and having a more positive approach.
This music video challenges dominant ideologies as it’s saying how life isn’t the be all and end all, just be yourself and don’t give up when people try to bring you down. This is reactionary to how people think the world should be however it’s radical to how people often think.
I like this video as it shows how people compare themselves to each other when it isn’t worth it in the end, it shows ‘her’ as the Villain as the Protagonist is comparing herself to her but she realises it’s okay to not be the same as everyone else. It tells a Linear story on how people have expectations but not one person is the same.
I like this video because it shows a linear story with an equilibrium where people feel like an outcast and feel as if they aren’t seen by anyone but towards the end of the video people realise that you don’t have to be loud to be heard and you aren’t invisible to everyone even if it feels like it. It shows a message on how things will get better in the end and you just have to stay strong. People can be seen without feeling as if you are isolated from everyone else.
This music video tells a story through the music as it’s soft and slow, this is an emotional piece of music which conveys how the protagonist may be feeling isolated and alone but there is someone to take away that sadness or loneliness that’s inside you, it reaches equilibrium when the girl enters the room as she is there with him and he doesn’t have to be alone. The music sounds happier towards the end which shows he feels okay.

MUSIC VIDEOS

For my music video, I am hoping to do an animated music video to differentiate from other music videos.

I like this music video because at the beginning, I like the shot zooming into the protagonist and then zooming out. I also like the way the protagonist is walking and the video is reversed and the background people are walking. I also like the way the protagonist maintains eye contact as it engages the audience and attracts their attention.

I like the way this music video begins with the protagonist wearing headphones (since including headphones are part of the brief). I also like the way the majority of the music video was with the headphone wire being created into images.

I like this music video because I like the animations. I feel this is the music video style I am most steered towards doing as animation will contain no people as I have discovered it is quite difficult working with people.
