A2 production work

THE A2 SET BRIEF

Create a three minute music video to promote a musical artist/band. The artist/band has record company backing and already has a strong social media following. The video aims to raise the profile of the artist/band and help appeal to a mainstream audience. You may select the genre of music. The video should feature the artist/band and use media language choices that both reflect the codes and conventions of the musical genre and actto construct a clear brand identity for the artist/band. The video is being released as part of the promotion of the artist/band’s forthcoming UK tour. The artist/band has a sponsorship deal with a headphone manufacturer and their product should be featured in the video in some way

1 Choose at least 3 style models that you want to use as inspiration for your music video production. Post your videos onto the blog.

2 Revisit some of the ideas that we have already looked at in terms of NARRATIVE THEORY (link 1, link 2, link 3). Read, remember, re-think. Make notes around key terms and approaches..

3 Plan your own video in terms of NARRATIVE THEORY, produce some planning documents: shot/sequence list, storyboard, animatic, or even brainstorms / spider diagrams if they help.

4 Complete your A2 statement of intent for this Music Video production. The statement of intent will follow the guidelines of your AS statement of intent (link here) The difference is for A2 it is 500 words.

5 Complete the narrative theory essay below – make sure you use key words, concepts and approaches that you have already responded to in tasks 9 & 10.

6 The words listed below are often associated with a social philosophy called POSTMODERNISM. We will look at this topic later in the A2 course, but for now can you define the following terms and try to link them to music videos? (note: music videos are often seen as very postmodern texts 🤔)

  1. Pastiche
  2. • Bricolage
  3. • Intertextuality
  4. • Implosion
  5. • cultural appropriation.
