I agree as making fashion inclusive for all sizes is dominant ideology today and Beyonce is a icon with a fashion brand making it about social issues and fashion.
The issue with models and plus size models in the fashion industry- as the fashion industry is labelled as exclusive and only for certain sized women however diversity has improved over the last few years as majority of famous fashion brands have become more inclusive and released a wider range in sizes. However Beyonce is a huge music star and has always promoted her brand as inclusive as she made her line gender neutral, ‘Beyoncé’s Ivy Park x Adidas Collection Will Be Gender-Neutral’, however she has not made the sizing as inclusive.
The line and Beyonce have received a lot of feedback due to the sizing.
Young female audience more traditionally seen as interested in more superficial issues – I don’t think my case study is superficial because it discuses a very serious situation which can effect anyone. This shows that teen vogue does not aim specifically at a certain audience as it has story’s which may interest a wider audience
The codes and conventions of a website – For a website page there should always be a picture correlating to a story to intrigue the reader. This story has a clear main image linking to the story.
How does the story construct a particular representation of the world– This story shows that the world is not a perfect and safe place for anyone. It also shows us that the story’s on teen vogue are not specific to women however they are mostly aimed at women.
Uses and gratifications– The main Uses and gratifications that can be seen in teen vogue are entertainment, social interaction and education. People read to vogue because it can be entertaining reading the different articles, they can talk to their friends about the magazine and the articles within, lastly they can learn important things from some of the articles for example this one about cat-fishing.
More traditionally seen as interested in more superficial issues – I think that Sex Education isn’t interested in more superficial issues because the actor George Robinson is disabled in real life which means that throughout the show he will experience real life events; there will therefore be a deeper meaning for the character Isaac. His relationship with Maeve represents that people don’t have to discriminate or be mean just because someone is disabled and doesn’t function like everyone else, they’re still the same person that they always have been. Their relationship highlights this and shows how Sex Education isn’t necessarily interested in more superficial issues. Having an actor who is disabled in real life is admirable because characters are often played by people who aren’t in wheelchairs in real life which implies a lack of consideration; however, using George Robinson to play Isaac is significant as he uses a wheelchair in real life and it represents a disability in a more real and heartfelt way.
Representation of particular groups – Many groups are being represented in Sex Education, including different races/ethnicity, people with disabilities, many different personalities etc. Isaac is being represented as having a disability which adds a sense of diversity to the show because it shows how the show is inclusive and doesn’t exclude people just because of what they’re like. The representation of having George Robinson play Isaac in the show is significant as he said he can empathise with the character. Although Isaac and Maeve grow a good relationship with each other in the show, the actors who played them (George Robinson and Emma Mackey) have developed a good relationship in real life which shows how different people can work together and be friends even if their background or situation is completely different.
Marrying of the political with fashion and lifestyle to target a young female audience – in this article this is seen as they have used a serious issue such as mass incarceration with a high profile celebrity such as Kim Kardashian to make there teenage audience interested.
Reporting on the Trump presidency has made it a relatively radical voice in the context of mainstream US media – in the article Trump is blamed for the problem of mass incarceration which supports the anti- trump movement seen regularly in there articles.
Creates an ideology about the world it is constructing– the ideology that teen vogue creates is that everyone aspires to be a celebrity and that they are more important than everyone else. it is seen in this article as Kim Kardahian is seen to be powerful enough that she alone can change Americas justice system.
