MEMORABLE SCENE: When all 3 stories intertwine (Near the end). Plus, ending monologue/voice over (Churchill Speech) – emotive as it’s read by one of the soldiers, forms a personal connection with audience.
Film Score: An original piece of music that’s written/tailored for a specific film. Film scores are composed to enhance a film’s story and emotion. Film score composers create the music for a film based on the direction given from the director.
Jukebox Score: When the majority of the songs are well-known popular music songs, rather than original music.
In the TV show ‘Wednesday’ voice-over narration is used to move the story along whilst also giving audience insight into Wednesdays thoughts as she goes into girl-detective mode (Wednesday narrates the voice-over).
A needle drop is when music that wasn’t recorded for a movie is added into a movie – when a pre-existing song plays in a movie or show, either as diegetic sound or non-diegetic sound.
Example: In American Psycho, Patrick Bateman plays ‘Hip to be square by Huey Lewis & The News’ as he is about to murder Paul Allen, the use of an upbeat song juxtaposes his murderous intentions/actions.
Overall working on the technical aspects (filming and editing) was enjoyable and I reckon we worked well as a team. However, there was some continuity problems making it harder to seamlessly edit the shots together. In the future I think having a clear understanding of how to use Adobe Premier Pro would greatly benefit me as I ended up with problems at some stages of editing.
Match on action- Cutting/transitioning between two events that are similar in action or movement.
The Graduate (Nichols) Match on Action- Benjamin pulls himself up onto an inflatable raft in a swimming pool but when we cut, he lands somewhere else. Clearly highlighting Benjamin’s detached state of mind.
Graphic Match- Links two different scenes together through the use of aesthetically similar elements like shapes, colours, patterns or overall movements.
2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick) Graphic Match- Bone into satellite; jump through time.
Eyeline Match- When the point of view of one or more characters is cut and matched with what they are looking at.
