Collaborative project: Production meeting 2

Notes: In this meeting we established and finalised each members production role (noted on meeting 1 blog post) and began discussing what theme and genre our short film will be and how we will begin the screenwriting process together.

We have started our planning and research by agreeing to each watch project X and Knives out to get an idea of the themes and style we are planning on doing (by next week) and note down key elements we were interested in.

Aaron will begin scoping locations and report back to us with photos and notes in next weeks production meeting.

Working title: ???

Genre: Mystery, found footage

Screenplay adaptation task reflection

I worked in a pair with Iona on creating a screenplay adapted from a short extract of the novel ‘1984’ by Orwell, 1948.

I personally found this task quite difficult due to the time limit we had to complete it (15 mins). It was also my first time creating a screenplay in the specific format which took a lot of concentration to do correctly while also trying to think of what is important (or not) to add into the screenplay. Now I have some practice with creating a screenplay in the correct format I believe next time it will be easier for me to take on. Also, creating a screenplay with an original idea that I can visualise will be a lot easier for me to turn into a screenplay, rather than adapting an existing piece which I don’t have as strong of vision of.

Screenplay

The definition of a screenplay is a written text that provides the basis for a film production. Screenplays usually include not only the dialogue spoken by the characters but also a shot-by-shot outline of the film’s action.

A film I think has a really good screenplay is The Silence of the Lambs as it was adopted very cleverly from a novel by Thomas Harris.
