There is a clear repetition of some features that make it onto the most popular films. Some of these consist of the genre, the distributor and what the film is about.

As we can plainly see, 9/15 of the top films in 2022 cinemas were sequels of either series like the Marvel Universe or independent films like Sonic the Hedgehog. Not only that but 2/15 of the films were based on other things, such as Uncharted (based on a videogame) and Elvis (Based on a person). This shows that the majority of the top films are not original or solo ideas.

Moving on to the Distributor, we can see that they are all big household names and that there are no independent film companies on the list. The largest distributor to make it onto the top 15 movies was Universal, with Disney and Paramount falling shortly behind.

Lastly, genre plays one of the biggest roles in the films that make it on the most popular list. As we can distinctly see, Action is in the majority with 6 in the top 7 movies. This shows that this is the most viewed genre in cinema.

All of these things play a big role in what makes the top 50 list of movies which made the biggest income.
