a narrator gives the audience background detail and helps guide them through the story.

In Fight Club the narrator isnt always reliable, this makes the audience unsure about the truth and what is actually going on. This is to put the audience in the same position as the main character, and increases on the tension.

leitmotif

A leitmotif recurring musical phrase it invites the audience emotionally for the arrival or actions of a particular character

In True Romance Hans Zimmer repeats a musical phrase called (you’re so cool) for whenever the two main characters are together which prepares the audience for a romantic scene

sound editor vs sound mixer

sound editor-they are responsible for all of a film’s sound elements, including dialogue, sound effects, automated dialogue replacement and more. Working in production as the film is being constructed

sound mixer -The sound mixer must decide what elements to emphasize and which to tone down. Working in post production.

match cutting

match on action – this refers to when the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shots action. For example a guy walking up to a door and another shot of the door opening
