citizen kane tasks

Explain how the production context of Citizen Kane influenced the look and feel of the end product.

The production of Citizen Kane created an eerie look due to the lighting in the film. The lighting shone down in only certain parts of the set which made certain scenes look eerie. The characters become silhouettes which gives a chilling feel to the audience which links in to the idea that Citizen Kane has an eerie sense to the finishing project.

Citizen.Kane.(1941).WMV - YouTube

The fact that some of the film was filmed from a low angle shot where there was a hole placed into the floor and so the camera can show more upright of the scene creates an odd look to the film as you can see the ceiling where in majority of films you cannot see the ceiling due to that’s where the lighting came from but the light coming through the window cancels out the lights above therefore you can see the ceiling as lights are being shone through the window creating a bright look into the scene which helps bring other scenes into this scene to help produce the finished product.

cinema going in jersey

There were four cinemas on Jersey between the years of 1930 and 1960. Those cinemas were New era, Forum, Wests and The Odeon. Majority of these buildings were either knocked down or remade into other shops and things like that. The only last standing Cinema is The Odeon. All of the cinemas had many seats.

Now there are 10 cinema screens in Jersey in Cineworld

There is about 5 independent cinema spaces across the island

There are less screens now due to the use of new technology and being able to watch films at home and so therefore there is less of a demand for cinema screens as majority of people can save the money and watch films at home.

In the 60s the coronation of the queen made locals want televisions to watch her coronation as it was being broadcasted rather than have to wait for it to come out at a later date.

film role 2

For this role i’ll be using cinematography

The role of a cinematographer is to control the camera and chose angles which are best suited for certain scenes and moments. A cinematographer is responsible for the was the scene looks though the lens and the lighting. The lighting is the responsibility of a Cinematographer as the cinematographer can see if the scene is too light or too dark and has the ability to change that due to being able to notice where the light needs to be and here is too dark or has too many shadows. An inspirational Cinematographer Louis le Prince who created the first Motion picture in 1888. The first motion pictures had no sound and were in black and white, however 100 years later it is now completely digital, high definition, includes sounds and also has intriguing visual effects that could have never been possible when cinematography first started. Le Prince was known as possibly being the first person to shoot a moving picture sequence using a single lens camera and a strip of film which we would now call a Tracking Shot. The cinematographer will be in charge of equipment that the camera needs like different lenses, batteries and sim cards to hold all the data and outtakes of the film being produced. Life Of Pi is a film which contains brilliant cinematography. Claudio Miranda was the cinematographer for the Life Of Pi and the film was shot on digital using ARRI ALEXA Camera and Angenieux Optimo Zoom Lenses.

ARRI Amira – Angenieux Optimo DP Zoom Package

The film was difficult to produce due to much of the filming being carried out in a self-generating wave tank on a set.

Clip 1 – Skating

I decided to create a adventure and Psychological non-fiction clip of film which I’ve taken inspiration from, from the film “Life Of Pi”. As the film is adventurous and shows determination as there is a demand for phycological thoughts to motivate and push people to achieve great things. Claudio Miranda was the cinematographer for the life of pi, Mirandas cinematographer style is naturalistic which i will use to establish the work that is put in to skate.

film role 1

For the first film role I’m using editing.

The editors role in production is to put all the clips together to produce the final product. The editor brings all the raw footage together and cuts clips out of the final product that will be shared with the audience. All clips filmed are sent to the editor and the editor choses the best to go into the film. There are some techniques which a editor uses are CROSS-CUTTING or J- cuts, L-cuts and jump cuts which are used for action. Alice Ida Antoinette Guy-Blaché inspires me due to the fact that she was the first female editor and she proved that woman can edit too and its not just men. She was one of the first people to introduce narrative fiction films, which are creative films which the story is told thought the characters, plot and setting. Guy was interviewed by the New York Clipper and she explained “I have produced some of the biggest productions ever released by a motion picture company,” (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/06/obituaries/alice-guy-blache-overlooked.html) Which is inspirational and influences me as she was no longer overlooked as an editor and is being commended for her work. A film which has been edited to show emotion and tension is Baby Driver. This film has two directors which shows the effort that went into creating this film. Jump cuts are used within this film which build up the tension and the editing is tightly placed together to give the film we see today. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_Driver)

skill and inquiry in film roles

I will look at other well known directors works as well as Tim Burton to then create an image and understanding of what I want to-do. I will use my own ideas and things I enjoy doing to then base my short films off of as I will have enjoyment filming and therefore become more engaged in what I am creating, which can help me create a better product.

I will use some friends and family to act within my films as they will have a clear understanding of what I envision and can help me achieve said vision. For the cinematographer role I can show the understanding of the shots by using shots which are usually used in the first few minutes of a film, for example an establishing shot.

I can reflect on past experiences to the create a resemblance to that and recreate the experience for the enjoyment of others.

I intend to create comedy type films and ones which create sympathy towards the characters, as they keep the audience most engaged.

Louis Le Prince, who shot the world's first film in Leeds - BBC News

Louis le Prince created the first Motion picture was created way back in 1888 and cinematography has evolved significantly since then. The first motion pictures had no sound and were in black and white, however 100 years later it is now completely digital, high definition, includes sounds and also has intriguing visual effects that could have never been possible when cinematography first started. Louis is inspirational as he kickstarted the idea of cinematography.

Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince was a French artist and the inventor of an early motion-picture camera, possibly the first person to shoot a moving picture sequence using a single lens camera and a strip of film.

The world’s earliest surviving motion-picture film, showing actual consecutive action is called Roundhay Garden Scene. Roundhay Garden Scene is a very brief silent motion picture filmed on 14 October 1888 and believed to be the oldest surviving film in existence. French inventor Louis Le Prince photographed the scene, which is set at Oakwood Grange in Roundhay, Leeds in the north of England.

Louis le prince went missing in 1890. Shortly after a body was found which resembled Louis.

A photograph of a drowned man pulled from the Seine in 1890, strongly resembling Le Prince, was discovered in 2003 during research in the Paris police archives. The most likely explanation for his disappearance is thus that, having failed to get his moving picture to work and now in debt, he chose to take his own life

Alice Guy Blache: Rediscovering the first great female filmmaker | The Independent | The Independent

Alice Ida Antoinette Guy-Blaché was the first female film editor. She’s inspirational as she showed that females can also do what males do in the film industry and she proved to society that women could do it the same as men which is why she is an inspiration to the editing world.

Alice Ida Antoinette Guy-Blaché, pioneer of the French and American film industries. The first woman director, she is also generally acknowledged to be the first director to film a narrative story.

Guy directed her first moving picture, La Fée aux choux, The Cabbage Fairy. La Fée aux Choux (The Cabbage Fairy, 1896) is considered the first fictional film with a scripted narrative. It was created by trailblazing French filmmaker Alice Guy-Blaché. It’s a brief fantasy tale involving a strange fairy who can produce and deliver babies coming out of cabbage.

Tim Burton - Movies, Quotes & Age - Biography

One inspirational professional is Tim Burton, The director of Corpse Bride and other similar films. His work is eerie and mysterious which is really inspirational to me as it leaves a load of suspense on the audience which creates the best types of films as it follows the film style which had a beginning, middle and end.

Corpse Bride is supposedly based on actual events that occurred in 19th century Russia, at a time when anti-Semitism was widespread in Eastern Europe. Very often, bands of anti-Semites would waylay a Jewish wedding party on their way to the wedding.

Timothy Walter Burton is an American film director, producer, writer and artist. He is known for his gothic fantasy and horror films such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Frankenweenie
