The scene in the Room 237 and the point where Wendy discovers that all jack has written for his book is a single phrase were significant points in the movie for me

BCU and insert shots

In film, an insert is a shot of part of a scene as filmed from a different angle and/or focal length from the master shot. Inserts cover action already covered in the master shot, but emphasize a different aspect of that action due to the different framing.

Shot Distances

Extreme Long Shot

Used to show the subject from a distance, or the area in which the scene is taking place. This type of shot is particularly useful for establishing a scene in terms of time and place, as well as a character’s physical or emotional relationship to the environment and elements within it.

Extreme Close-Up

Extreme Close Up Emphasizes a small area or detail of the subject, such as the eye(s) or mouth. An Extreme Close Up of just the eyes is sometimes called an Italian Shot, getting its name from Sergio Leone’s Italian-Western films that popularized it.

Examples of Diegesis

Diegetic: Perspective is expressed by how the director chooses to emphasise elements in the film. E.g. Star Wars

Intra-Diegetic: Popularly and most commonly used in ‘Found Footage’ horror movies, Intra-diegetic puts the audience in place of a character. A famous example of this is the film ‘Blair Witch Project’

Extra-Diegetic: When a character looks directly at the lens and addresses the audience breaking the 4th wall. A popular contemporary example is Deadpool
