a sound motif is a short sequence of music/sound assigned to a certain setting, character, object or feeling repeated whenever on screen
an example of this is hedwigs theme in harry potter. the theme is iconic to the movie and comes up very often
foley artists make sounds that either need to be emphasised or created from scratch
these sounds include: covered celery to recreate punching sounds, coconuts as horseshoes
some sounds are created for things that don’t already exist such as light-sabers in star wars or dinosaur roars in Jurassic park
diegetic=sound heard by characters e.g dialogue, action sounds
non-diegetic- sound not heard by characters e.g narration, soundtrack
In Shaun of the dead there is a variety of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds
the diegetic sounds include; dialogue, screaming, action sounds(breaking, hitting zombies) newsreader
the non- digetic include; background music,
a sound editor collects/creates sounds for film whilst a mixer puts the sounds together to create the final film

in these shots we utilised mainly external reverse shots to once again tell the story of box head. in this sequence, box head is trying to escape the box
Depth of field is the distance between the closest and farthest objects in a photo that appears acceptably sharp.
in shallow focus the depth of field is smaller and the camera only focuses on a little portion of film. this creates a more intimate feel
deep focus usually utilises a wide shot and the camera keeps focus on everything. this allows the audience to get a unbiased understanding of the scene
