Q: Is this list easy or difficult to complete? Why?

I found this list difficult to complete because I like a lot of films and find it hard to think of a particular film that made me go wow at the end of it.

Q: What makes a film a ‘Good’ film

For me a ‘good’ film is one that I am happy to watch again when people suggest a film to watch. This is an amazing quality as I don’t usually like watching a film more than once even if I liked it the first time. In terms of macro elements a ‘good’ film has an appealing and original narrative and relatively easy to follow. For me a certain genre doesn’t make a good films as I enjoy a large variety of genres. This doesn’t mean that I don’t prefer certain genres and in fact I find more ‘good’ movies are romantic comedies as action and comedies can be quite cheesy and often repetitive of other films. But the narrative and especially the messages have to be linked and relative to the genre of the film. However in terms of micro elements editing is a huge part of a ‘good’ film. If a film is edited well then it makes all the difference. Especially during a scene with music, having the cuts on the beat adds a real solid and slick effect. I don’t expect all the cutts to be on a beat as it can look bad and too much but trying to make the edits match with the music accompanying it is really important. As well as editing, cinematography is crucial. Therefore, especially because I am a photographer, the camera angles are important to me. If the film is always shot at head height then it can become boring and not appealing to watch. Also having in camera transitions or clever ones of a person walking across the frame with multiple cuts for example can look really effective and cool. In addition, the sound is one of the most important parts of film in my opinion. If the music or SFX doesn’t fit with the footage being displayed then it can be easy for your attention to be taken away from the film. For me a little subtle sound of birds or things in the background makes all the difference and really helps me to immerse in what I am watching. All this being said, I believe that a ‘good’ film would still be interesting and enjoyable without sound. Therefore meaning someone who is deaf can still experience the joys of film. In conclusion a ‘good’ film is one that entices you from the beginning all the way to the end and you can’t bear to take your eyes away from the screen. It also leaves you wanting there to be a sequel. A good film, I think should also be made in a way that is comfortable for the eyes and not having to think too hard to understand.
