Kuleshov work

This is the work we did on cinematography to use different shots to build the character that we have used for mise-en-scene. These photos show a confrontation between two people and uses many different shots to show different angles and emotions
Rating: 10/10
Memorable scene – When Richard is walking around shouting if anyone is home and the camera is tracking him witgh the suspenseful music. And then he turns the corner and gets axed by Jack.
Film element focus – Cinematography
XLS- In Black Panther they use a Extreme Long Shot to show the new entry of Wakanda to the marvel industry. This allows the viewers to be more immersed in the film and they know where its set.
CU – in the 1980 film ‘the shining’ they use this close up to make the audience more scared when the man jumps and and shouts ‘here’s johnny’. The close up allows the audience to be more scared as they are closer to him.
MS -In the film the hunger games the cinematographers decided to use a medium shot because she was in the action of shooting someone so if it was filmed too close then you wouldn’t get the effect of the shot going through so they used the medium shot to show most her body and the bow as she is about to shoot someone.
Intra-deiegetic gaze- In the game ‘Call Of Duty WWII’, The story mode of the campaign is played in first person and you are a soldier fighting in the war. There are many visual aspects where bomb explode and the character is left shell shocked and many scenes where you are fighting against the opposing side. Playing in first person allows you to be immersed as the game is graphic and you get a good idea of how soldiers were treated and how the war planned out.
Extra-deiegetic gaze- There are many scenes in Deadpool and Deadpool 2 where he talks to the camera and makes jokes and funny comments and this allows the people watching to be immersed in the world as they feel that he is talking to them personally.
Deiegetic- Star wars is an example of this as mostly throughout the films the characters never look at the camera and theirs not many extreme closeups but if there is they wont be looking at the camera this feels like they are watching from a distance.

Here are the pictures we took on our camera to show the different lengths of shots. We used the Forrest as we thought it would be a good idea to use a Forrest to develop the character as it shows that he is running away. The mugshots are taken after this occurred
Many films in the top grossing films is superhero films like Marvel and DC. Bohemian Rhapsody is also a good film as its a Biopic film about Freddie Mercury and his life and how Queen the band rose to power and how it decayed over time.
Props- The balloon from ‘it’ is used to show that the clown uses it to lure children towards it so that he can kill them and is a massive piece of the Stephen King film as it is shown in many scenes and is almost a prop that represents the film.
Costume- In the show ‘Glee’ the main character Rachel Berry is dressed up in a traditional high school nerd as she wore a skirt and a nerdy shirt with long white socks showing she is a typical nerd.
Make-up – A film that has a good example of make up to create a character is the joker. He has make up on to intimidate audiences and it is symbolic to the joker character as it has always been known to have over the top makeup.
Set design – The set design of Hedda Gabler is just one room, however, they make use of space and make it look like its a lot bigger and they use symbolic props with it so every prop on the stage has a meaning later on in the show.
Location – A film that shows how a location is used is lord of the rings because its shot in New Zealand in a green highlands but at certain points of the films they make it dark and gloomy which makes you think how they did it and it showed verisimilitude as everything was realistic.
Lighting – The film Don’t Knock Twice is good because every time an event is going to happen and its scary the lights usually go from bright to very dim/dark and when the lights turn on again everything is fine but someone usually ends up dead.
Film Stock- In ‘It’ they use film stock in a certain scene to show the woman getting married slowly changing into penny wise the clown.
Space – Interstellar uses negative space to emphasize to the people watching that the planet that he is on is so large. So the negative space shows that he is only a small person in a big surronding.
