reflection on screenplay task

Filming our piece was relatively easy as we filmed random clips around school for our montage and then recorded the monologue separately. Being in school at the time was very convenient as we could utilise the surroundings to replicate the American high school in ‘the breakfast club’. We planned to stay as true to the screenplay as we could, we even filmed the locker mentioned. We also tried to add our own touches however left them out as we were not satisfied with them and they felt too cheesy. The shots we took had potential but I felt we had filmed them too shaky and altogether dull so I hoped I could make it less boring with editing. Unfortunately, I found that I had run out of footage to fill out the time period of the spoken monologue so to fix this I alternated each shot with a shot of a corridor. I was quite pleased with my editing as I managed to stay true to the film by adding the David Bowie quote at the beginning and I also managed to add my own ideas by alternating cuts to a corridor shot which I felt added a creepier vibe that I really liked. In the end, post-editing, my piece looked ok but quite boring so next time I will try to take more interesting shots and try and stray from the original screenplay by adding my own style as I feel like I managed to make it slightly better when I did. In addition, I think I need to improve my camera techniques to make a more polished and interesting film. As a group I feel like I worked well and we both contributed evenly however if we collaborated again, we should divide rolls better and play to our strengths as we were both mostly doing the same thing and we could have got more done if we had done this.
