Diegesis

Diegetic – An example of a film that uses diegetic techniques is Star Wars as the shots used are usually still or slow moving shots that pan around a character or place. This is used to make the audience feel as if the world that is created is real and alive.

Intra-Diegetic – An example of a film that uses Intra-Diegetic techniques is Blair Witch as the entire film is shot in a first person view. This immerses the audience by making them feel as if they are with the protagonist and experiencing what the protagonist is.

Extra-diegetic – An example of a film that uses Extra-diegetic techniques is Dead pool as the main character addresses the audience directly on a series of occasions throughout the film. This adds a comedic tone to the film as the character understands that he is being watched by an audience.
