Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scène is a phrase used to describe the design aspect of a film production, which literally means “what is in the screen”.

Cindy Sherman was born on January 19, 1954 and is an American photographer who is know for her self-portraits, in which she represents herself in many different forms and as various imagined characters.

Cindy Sherman makes all her photos different even though they are all self-portraits. She does this by using mise en scene; this is where she changes the background, her costume, her expression or her make up to change the mood. Also, all her photos are staged.

Her most known work is a collection of self portraits where she changed something before taking another photo. During this she went from a librarian to a prostitute.

Below is our plan and attempts at using mise en scene in photos.
